Call me old, but it seems every time there is a post copied from Twitter, it’s followed by multiple #.

It was originally implemented as a cheap and easy way to group Twitter messages.

Pound signs are metadata tags. When you click them, it brings up other tweets, posts, whatever with those same tags.
