If you aren't trash, you are likely to want to spend time with family. Invite the fam and friends and have a good time.
I know a few guys who didn't even care to attend their young kids parties. They were too cool for school. Those werkend hunting and fishing trips that cost $400 were ok, but don't let the wife go spend $100 on the kids party.
Redneck life. LOL

all my years on the OT I have learned one thing

and that is that the OT hates parties, especially if it is a party which involves kids or god forbid, catered towards women

About twenty grand. We had a destination birthday party in Carmel, Ca and played Pebble along with Spyglass.

Can't argue with that. If you aren't spending all of your disposable income watching football or playing golf you are wasting your money.

My son's second birthday was Bama 2012 at LSU. So we had him a party while tailgating.

A picture of him, his mother and myself blowing out his LSU cake made the ESPN slideshow.

It didn't cost anything more than a normal tailgate besides presents and a cake. So like $100?

I've looked back through old photo albums now that I'm older, and I've come to the conclusion that my parents were super broke and probably would be considered OT trash.

Every one of my birthday pics until I'm prob 5 just has me and some friends sitting in a sandbox or a plastic above ground pool (o the horror). We got smiles on our faces and in the background you see all the parents drinking beer and grilling.

I think that's probably what I'll lean towards. I see all these parties alot of my friends put on and they just look so fake/staged. Not to mention none of them have shite for money so I know they're being idiots.

My gf is also super lowkey and didn't come from much so she totally agrees. Having said that, if you want to spend 10K on a party I'll def show-up and double bounce the shite out of some kids in the space walk !

First kid?
It took me a while to get used to this phenomenon. Parents are spending big bucks on birthday parties. I watched a mama check out at build a bear for 468$...FOR ONE HOUR.
It's crazy.
I did family only parties until 2nd grade and then small groups of friends for swimming and fishing.
They never complained.

My nephew had a clown, a pony, some slut painting faces, bacon wrapped shrimp dipped in chocolate, open bar, and splits of Dom for everyone there.

The cake was a croquenbush (sp) from Maurice's, and we all ate Blue Bell.

I think the second one is going to Chuck e cheese.

That's how most of mine were and my kids' are. I've had better years but most are walmart pool, slip n slide, cake.

Hell Burger King used to be a goto spot for birthday parties as a kid.
The 'rich kids' had theirs at Don Carter's or Leo's.

Y'all probably weren't broke or trash though. That's how birthday parties were done back then. My family is pretty well off and when I look back at the pictures of my childhood birthdays, it was just me, my siblings, mom, dad, and grandparents. There was usually a doberge cake and maybe a balloon or two. Grandparents gave me checks for my savings account and mom and dad got me whatever toys I happened to want at the time.

Just checked last month's credit card statement -- $22 on paper plates and decorations at party city. About $70 at the grocery for food & treats. The most expensive part was my wife hiring a maid to clean the house beforehand - God knows things have to be immaculate for a group of toddlers to come over.

For his 1st birthday we kept it simple but I'll admit we got a bit carried away for his 2nd. We easily eclipsed 50k on strippers and blow alone

Its not about the toddlers. It's about their mom's. A lot of the mom's I know do these extravagant parties to show off and impress the other mom's. One of the girls I grew up with is renting out the Caurosel at City Park in October for her 1 yr olds birthday. She's having the invitations made at the same place that did her wedding invitations. It's insane imo.

First kid a little money was spent... by the 2nd kid I think I spent more on the keg than the party.
