What degree requiring occupation has the smallest skill gap...
... between paid professional and some person off the street?

I'm thinking it has to be Journalist/Columnist, with the gap closing quickly. Compared to even 20 years ago, just about everyone today can type at a productive speed. In addition, the internet makes it easy to fact-check just about anything quickly.

It may take some time to master interviewing, but I think only one out of every thousand news items I consume actually involves an interview. Also in today's world, if you're afraid of (or suck at) cold-calling, just send an e-mail! For journalistic bonus points, if you send an e-mail you still get to claim you reached out to someone.

I think that's why people in those jobs tend to be left-leaning and creeping in on a full embrace of Socialism.

They'll need the Government to keep them from going broke. The internet is already flooding the market with blogs and forums that do as good (or better) at the job of relaying information to the general public - without the content generators needing a specific 4 year degree to do it. It's only going to get worse once the last round of people who are completely inept at computers start to sign off on life.

I automatically assume anyone with a journalism degree nowadays is a liberal idiot with no real skills in life. It's usually accurate.

Why is journalist/columnist capitalized?

Guess you’re too dumb to be either.

Anybody can he a "journalist" today with blogs and the such. I think you may be right. Sports journalist especially are terrible at asking questions. I'm a damn accountant and I could ask better questions than "tell me about" or "how do you feel." I crack up when guys like Belichick embarrass those dumbasses because they pose the question in closed format instead of a way where he has to answer or just ignore the question all together.

Real marketing using analytics and stuff is interesting and hard to do. Dumbass posts of Facebook I agree with you.

I'm having a hard time thinking of an occupation that meets the criteria of requiring a degree AND having a smaller skill gap than amateurs.

A street walker could be trained at it just as easily as a marketing major. Either way, you just need to learn how to read the software stats.

I think the ability to train people these days allows this for a lot of fields/jobs. Some jobs are especially difficult, IE. Accounting, and can’t be done with just a bit of training.

Having a bachelor’s degree shows that you are willing to start and finish something more than anything else, IMO and that’s why jobs can vary.

As someone who worked as an editor for a newspaper for five years, I disagree that a lot of people can do it. Working seven days a week, all holidays and never technically being off the clock isn’t for many people.

I’m happy to be out of the industry.

So much wrong with this.

1. Journalists don’t require a degree
2. A journalis
Degree does teach more than fricking typing
3. Studies have shown that true journalists, not talking pundits, but the people’s who actually go out and do investigations, are not overwhelmingly biased as liberal.
4. People often confuse bias with compassion.

I double majored with one major being journalism and it helped get me my current analyst job. Because they needed analysts who are able to communicate. You’d be shocked how many traders and portfolio managers can barely put together a comprehensible email that spells out what stakeholders need to know.

My two guesses would be "Publisher of the Rouge Collection" or "Mommy, writer, free spirit, advocate."

Didn’t you get fired from a journalist job? Seems like you also might be too dumb.

I used to think accounting was a major degree. But since I’ve been in finance, ive seen a lot of people with accountants in their titles who don’t have business backgrounds.
