Nah, Russia always takes a beating, but they’ll always be back. It’s historically a bad idea to try to conquer Russia since they just produce different sorts of men and the government doesn’t give a single shite about their lives.

Surprised no one has mentioned Argentina yet.

In 1917, Argentina had a larger population & GDP than the US. Despite vast natural resources, robust international trade relationships and an educated population, over the last 100 years, they decided to effectively become Africa.

Their treasury is bankrupt, they've defaulted on their public debt numerous times just this century, they conduct decades of fake elections and venerate dictators, and their political scandals far exceed the imagination of any modern spy movie or telenovela. Argentina murdered/imprisoned a generation of its people for any type of dissension and their government officially adopted away the children of the imprisoned like it was no big deal.

For instance, in 2015 the current president had the attorney general killed because the AG discovered the president agreed to overlook a terrorist bombing in Argentina, perpetrated and funded by Iran, as long as Iran would agree to supply oil to Argentina.

Spain... their armada is still ablaze

I vote Germany. World wars destroyed everything. The economy, the morals, their humanity. It was all lost.

Attributing a tourism slump to Trump seems a bit simple-minded.

2017 was the weakest virtually every currency in the world has been in our lifetimes against the dollar. That's going to affect tourism much more than a President's Twitter.

I think the argument against the Mongols, which has been pointed out in this thread before, is that they really didn't have a lasting impact other than maybe, arguably, in Mesopotamia (which was just pure destruction on their part) and maybe Russia (in which they contributed to the Russians' paranoid and crazy mindset). They came and went in the flash of a pan in historical terms without a serious cultural and lasting impact like the Persians, Greeks, Chinese, Romans, British, etc., etc.

I'd say having the 5th largest economy on the planet and the biggest economy in, arguably, the richest continent is pretty damn solid.
Did the people saying Germany just get out of a World War II class or something?
Post War geopolitical set-up was created to do 2 things: Contain the USSR and keep Germany from ever becoming the dominant power in Europe. It succeeded in the first, but failed miserably at the second. Germany runs the EU (hence most of England's aversion to the union).
