That's what I said too. A more vigorous art scene.

Perhaps I'm just impatient and would like to see something to accelerate it.

Isn't that what we are talking about?

Just making sure that people realize that BR is a big town and not a city

Were you here in the 90s and early 2000s? Do you have any idea how far Baton Rouge has come in the last 15 years? Last 10 years? Last 5? At this incredible and completely unprecedented level of progress, BR won't even be recognizable in 5 years outside of the traffic on I-10 and Airline.
Baton Rouge is still crummy, but it's getting much much better and very quickly.

Word.
There won't be a lively downtown during the week until it becomes convenient to live there. They need grocery stores, a CVS/Walgreen's type place, etc. Basically more than one street of bars and restaurants

Why do you think BR is not a city? That doesn't sound logical

Be patient, it's coming.

What will maintain it? What will help a movement that pushes out the trash and makes people want to reclaim what has been neglected flourish?

The new raising canes and repaired coke sign will revitalize downtown.
And a Chimes type restaurant / bar where stroubes is located would have been perfect for drawing the younger crowd downtown to eat/drink and then hop on down 3rd street.

That is one of the problems, a bunch of people who have zero incentive or desire to leave the area. The area between LSU and downtown is a joke and should be completely different

I'm looking for a condo downtown now because of this thread.
You did your part to revitalize downtown BR Free.

AA minor league team w/ downtown stadium. Could use the state parking garages for parking.

Now you're just talking out your arse.
Push out the trash?

Matherns and IBM downtown will certainly help. Having those half dozen HUGE projects along the Nicholson corridor south of Downtown is already putting pressure on slum lords in Old South Baton Rouge to sell to the group of wealthy LSU alumni/developers that are buying up every available property in Old South Baton Rouge to gentrify it. Gentrification has already won the momentum in Bouregard Town. The developments are cleaning out Nicholson. In the next decade, the momentum will win out and begin pushing the trash off of Highland. Now, if they could just do something about the Section 8 Housing in Tigerland.
The trash is being flanked and surrounded as we speak. From Bouregard in the North, Park Ave and the Lakes in the East, LSU from the South, and now Nicholson in the West. The trash will be gentrified or bulldozed, but it will take time. 10-20 years.
