Harrisonburg. One vote away from being LA state capital.

Melville. Has LA 10 running through it with a port on the Atchafalaya. Locals pissed off governor who decided to place bridge in Krotz Springs. It is now at the end of LA 10 where it dead ends.

Harrisonburg

There’s was a little general store there years ago where a young man would help out in the summers. It was owned by his grandparents.

The young man loved the store and eventually went on to build a small convenience store if his own in the early 80s. It was located in a small town in Texas called Lake Jackson.

The store has a weird, catchy name.

Buc-ee’s

Harrisonburg could have been home to an empire!!

Alexandria probably. Central location in the state.

In all honesty, LSU would probably benefit moving to Central LA and buy up a large chunk of land to develop around it.

Monroe.

What if Delta Airlines stayed there?

The community around Holly Beach was growing and thriving until Rita and then Laura 15 years later. Who knows what it could have been today?

Slidell could've been similar sized to modern day Orlando, if Louisiana politicians hadn't tried fleecing Walt Disney while attempting to buy Northshore land for his theme park

Opelousas

Galveston was once known as the Wall Street of the south. At least a part of Houston evolved due to Galveston’s demise.

Donaldsonville. I couldn’t tell you how it happened so fast.
In the 60s it was a destination. In the 90s it looked like Nola 9th ward dropped a ghetto bomb.

Eros was once bigger than West Monroe until a tornado tore the town up then a fire burned down the saw mill. Now it has a population of around 50.
it would have been awesome to have a city in LA called Eros

In the movie Jezebel (set in 1852) there is a scene of a bank board of directors meeting. One foresighted man wants to bring in the railroad, but he's voted down by the old money elite, as they don't want change.

This seems to have been a common theme in NO history.

I don't think NO could have prevented Houston surpassing it. But what about Atl? Was that a foregone conclusion? And even more so, why did Dallas become a major city?

LA would have been better off w/a liberal arts school in Natch, a cow college in Ruston, & an engineering school in BR.

But that would have hurt the LSU football team

If I may expand the subject, why did Natchez never become a major city? Or V'burg? (On the same latitude/rail line as Ft Worth/Dallas/Shreveport/Monroe/Jackson)

If the Jones Act is ever repealled, ports like New Orleans would be more prosperous.

That said, it still probably wouldn't have gotten that much bigger.
