Create a program for daily pay/city beautification work.

Dedicated daily pick-up locations, 8 hours of work, paid for food/water.

Litter Pick-up would be worth this alone AND opens up prisoners to other types of duties.

If they don't want to work, don't give them assistance (unless they physically can't). Even if 25% of the homeless did this, it would be successful.

Being them to Ontario which is a city that prides itself on its diversified culture and willingness to allow new people to enter. There they can enjoy free healthcare and get the help they need.

I don't know what you are referring to.

I acknowledged that most people with major addiction problems likely wouldn't do a whole lot to help themselves (this idea would certainly need to be supplemented with mental health / addiction programs as all three are twisted together to contribute to this problem).

I also showed a link indicating that roughly 2/3 - 3/4 of homeless people are not addicted and those are the ones that would seem to be most easily helped. Our current programs certainly are not helping them for some reason and it only seems to be getting worse. (You could make a reasonable assumption that people who become homeless are more at risk to fall into addiction due to that situation, hopelessness, stress, depression are all commonly seen as major underlying causes of addiction. But that isn't really pertinent to this discussion).

One reason for the increasing homelessness problem, for example, automation is taking away a lot of low level jobs and so the most at risk populations - lower middle class with minimal or no savings - are starting to lose their employment. Manufacturing workers, retail workers as amazon shuts down stores - we have all seen malls closing. Those type of people may be able to stay off the streets with gig work, handyman whatever kind of bullshite for some minor supplemental income if you put money into their hands instead of letting the gov. suck it all up and waste it on bureaucratic red tape and bullshite.

- Also, if it wasn't clear, you can't actually implement UBI to somebody without at least a Social Security Number, PO Box or bank account something of that nature that can identify their citizenship. So the people living in a random alley doing drugs all day probably won't be getting this money until they get their at least somewhat together. So the most at risk for what you are talking about largely wouldn't be able to actually take part in such a program.

1.) more accessible, affordable mental healthcare
2.) increased minimum wage (no, not $15.00/hr, but i do think around $10+/hr should be considered)
3.) regulation on rehab centers to ensure quality care, rather than just quantity of patients

Ya the VA system definitely needs a big re-think on how it is all implemented.

Agree with you on the paid sterilization. We need that available for more than just the homeless.

Should offer sterilization to those with an IQ under 100. Far too many dumbass people in this country

You said that homeless people either have a drug addiction, alcohol addiction, or mental condition, and your solution is to take taxpayer dollars and give them a fixed income (no questions asked) and let them use the money as they please. That's gotta be the worst solution I've ever heard, and no link you provide will ever change my mind.

Should be offered to everyone that way it's not considered targeting a specific demographic.

I'm really not worried about convincing you, the below is mainly just to clarify the above misrepresentation of what I was saying.

I said that drug / alcohol addition and mental illness are highly correlated with one another and contribute to this problem. The link I posted indicated that roughly 2/3 - 3/4, DO NOT have those issues depending on how you consider the stats. So those are the ones in the best situation to be helped which would hopefully alleviate pressure and make helping the 1/3 of those who DO have those issues a bit easier / more realistic moving forward.

In order to implement such a basic income you would need an address, bank account, social security card or something to receive it, you aren't just walking around handing out cash to people. So, to me, it seems reasonable that the 1/3 of people with addiction / major mental illness would probably have the most trouble getting set up to receive that basic income, at least until those who have a much better shot of getting off the streets have been helped.

Also, the overall idea is to that EVERYONE gets that guaranteed income, a concept called Universal Basic Income which isn't new and I personally think is going to have to come about at some point as less and less jobs are available. But that would help stem the flow of people into homelessness by providing some cushion as more and more jobs lost, people leave the workforce or are severely underemployed (and you get the added benefit of the dollars being more effective in the hands of citizens as opposed to being wasted by the gov't as they can target the money to wherever it will help them most). Again, programs in Kenya and such have shown that this direct cash aid has been more effective in getting people out of poverty than "aid packages".

There's NOTHING to be done. They're homeless by choice and this is a free country. They are FREE to choose.

Jobless rates are < 4%. Plenty of work available.
