It still doesn't make any sense to get an 80 over a 100.

He's boiling for him and his wife bro. 2 people. He doesn't even need an 80. A turkey fryer pot would actually be perfect but on the odd occasion that he wants to boil a sack, the 80 will more than accommodate.

My dream of having a St Patrick’s Day crawfish boil at my house surrounded by family and friends with one of these contraptions as the centerpiece is what has kept me going the last few years.

What did materials and labor cost?

About $1200 but that was before crazy covid price increases. Its all Tig welded aluminum with stainless burners. The lip around the edge hooks up to a hose and sprays the side down to pull the heat out. Works great.

I can’t understand the infatuation with these ridiculous sized, unpractical boilers that are popular these days.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't one a self contained, all in one piece on wheels that I can roll out of my garage, hook up to a NG line and do anywhere from 1/2 sack to 2 sacks at a time. It's perfect for the wife and a couple friends, all the way up to having 40 people over. And this thing will last forever and is repairable, unlike all the cast garbage that on the market.

Get a 100qt aluminum pot and a jet burner and call it a day.

Yep.

There’s more and more cool new boiling thangs every year and while a lot of them are legit and cool you don’t really need them.

Def not an 80 qt pot though. Gets crowded real quick.

Those extra 20 qts of space/water are killing you eh?

Bayou Classic stainless steel 82qt pot

I got this recently and returned it because it was too small. Go for 100qt+

That makes sense but bear in mind your gear will last a really long time even with minimal care or maintenance. Like, decades really. So an extra $ spent now is worth it if your boiling quantity needs ever get higher and you won’t have to go out and get a bigger pot anyway.
Source: me and my tiny 80 qt pot that I never use even for 2-4 people boils.

I had a Bayou Classic stainless steal pot that didn’t last. After 2 1/2 years it was pitted so bad it started leaking. I went back to using my 15 year old aluminum pot.

What's the burner setup for NG look like? What size line are you hooking it up to?

I have a 3/4" stub I had my plumber put in when he installed the gas line for the pool heater. I know the pool heater is 400K BTUs.

I have 3/4". The biggest issue is what your gas service pressure is. Big difference between 1/4 and 2psi.

not all stainless pots are stainless. Most of t hem are electroplated and a scratch quickly becomes a leak

I’m not saying it’s not nice, it’s just not practical unless you’re doing multiple sacks every weekend. Plus you still have to wash the crawfish so you need tubs. You still have the hassle of cleaning storing that behemoth. All that work for half a sack? Ha. And natural gas aside, you can’t bring it to a friends house or a tailgate or wherever else to cook without a forklift to put it in and take it out. One guy even posted a pic of one not on wheels which is extra WTF.

I’m not sure what kind of pots you’re talking about that can’t be repaired (why the f would you need to repair it) or won’t last in general? As with most baw things, it’s a dick measuring contest when in actuality what we’ve used forever is perfect but not as cool to show off on social media.

I was in winn Dixie one day last year and they had a stainless 100qt pot for 100 bucks. It's thin, but it works great for the 1 or 2 times a year I boil. It's not feasible for me to spend a ton of money an expensive pot or an all in one rig. I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost.

I must have the 2psi because I have the upgraded meter for my whole home generator and the pool heater. Does yours have a regulator or way to adjust the NG besides an on an off?

Most household appliances are rated around 8-10 inches of water column (or right at 1/4). 2psi would be blowing shite up in your house.

Definitely get the 100 qt over the 80 qt. You won't regret it.

Agreed.

BUT! Make sure the basket is also sized up. I had a buddy buy a 100qt rig from Academy and the basket was the same size as his 80qt rig. So more water and seasoning, but still holds the same amount of stuff. Stupid.

I have two 100 qt rigs from Bayou Classic and they are great. I can do two sacks at a time and feed a lot of people pretty quickly.

You definitely have 2psi if you have both of those.

Mine has a regulator on the wall mounted quick connect. I went with a recessed box but you can do a surface mount or whatever you need. Check out:
