People who commit suicide are really mentally ill. I don't judge them negatively. Do you have any idea how low you have to feel to harm yourself to the point of death. Can you imagine the black hole you would have to have in your heart, in your mind, to where the only outlet you can see is death.

Mental illness is a powerful thing, especially when u wait too late to get help. I always thought people who committed suicide were weak, until I became mentally sick myself.

Luckily for me I got help ASAP. Once those so called "demons" infiltrate your thoughts. It's hard to fight them off.

If I knew I were diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's, I'd be proactive.

I feel bad for them and the ones they leave behind. It's terrible that a person can get to the point that they feel it can't get better and even is so bad to the point that their mental state trumps all else

My uncle killed himself few years ago. Hit me pretty hard but my mom said he talked about it his whole life. He was about 64 I think so he lived pretty long but struggled through a divorce and some other shite. It was crazy though, he was constantly busy like manic. I saw him a month or two before he shot himself and he was constantly sleeping like the complete opposite of his personality. We had no idea what was going to happen obviously but I'm glad he didn't take anyone else with him because he was pretty crazy about guns and a crazy political nut too.

Depression is a crazy thing. In his mind, he was probably more of a burden on his family than anything. People that far down just want the "pain" to end no matter what it takes. Hard to understand unless you have fought depression in some form or another before and a lot of people are ignorant about it. I used to think it was selfish too but my views have changed.

If you've never heard those little pangs in the back of your head taunting you, mocking you, egging you on, then consider yourself lucky.

Depression can be overwhelming, and a moment of weakness or despair may be all it takes to send someone over the edge.

It's not fun. After something like losing your job, or a SO leaving you, or the loss of a loved one, you don't always think rationally.

And sometimes even when you want them to the thoughts won't go away.

Yes, in most cases it's chickenshit but you don't know what someone is going through.

Pretty sure your family would be better off if you committed suicide

So why do suicidal prevention methods help some and not others?

Why do some respond to blood pressure meds and others don't? Some have a more intractable form of depression.

Sometimes they are in such despair that they think their family and loved ones are better off without them.

That being said, I think neither good nor bad about those that commit suicide. People live in their own worlds and in their own hells. I always feel for the families and the guilt they sometimes feel, even though that guilt is not theirs.

My best to your co-worker's friends and family.

I feel for the loved ones. Suicide is clearly a tough subject. There must be something very wrong with a person to have the urge to take their own life. Yet, it almost seems selfish to leave your loved ones behind. All you can do is keep the remaining family in your thoughts and prayers, and offer your help wherever you can.

This is very well said.

Because some people want to be saved, others don't. You can't save everyone.

I suffer from depression. I have to say that the ones that are judging people because they have committed suicide should stop. You have no idea the pain and thoughts that goes through your mind. What once was my way of coping with my depression has actually become part of my depression. You feel hopeless and the few people you can count on start to get annoyed with your worrying and you feel like you have nowhere to turn.

Even when you know it isn't permanent...it still FEELS like a downward spiral.

The sails go slack, the storms come and you start to sink. Even if you know land is out there, all you can see is the immediate situation.
