Get a bundle of those Daddy Longlegs decoys and place them strategically around your perimeter. We all know they eat mosquitoes and mosquitoes will avoid your area out of fear of being eaten.

We have ours treated by a company. After the first application, you will see a drastic decrease. After the second they're pretty much gone, and after that it is just maintenance. They spray every 3 weeks here.

A 50/50 mix of DDT & Chlordane should do the trick.

citronella plants and candles plus a fire pit.

If you're motivated enough, certain plants might help. For instance, google: plants that repel mosquitoes, and read some of the articles for ideas. If you're worried about different bugs, amend your search.
Obviously, more effort to do this, but if it helps, it's likely worth it.

I spray Yard Guard before we go out on the patio. I have zero issues with bugs. Probably takes a few years off your life inhaling the stuff but at least I enjoy my backyard insect free.

The only surefire way to get rid of them is to get rid of them with poison. Spray around the base of everything that touches the ground and get rid of anything the puddles water.

35 plants that repel mosquitos
I used to have wild garlic but it's a really overpowering smell. And I like the smell of garlic. Now I've got cinnamon basil and it's about as effective as the garlic. I've tried olive trees but they never made it through the first winter.
If non of these work you should consider the ancient and deadly art of the nunchaku.

I mounted a 3 speed squirrel cage blower on a frame with wheels. I roll it out to the back patio and it eliminates all bugs and provides a breeze in warm weather.

I’m told that being on a lake isn’t as big of a contributor as you might think due to minnows being efficient predators of mosquito larvae. By all means, eliminate any standing or wet spots (non-flowing gutters as well). The guys suggesting Talstar P (bifenthrin) are giving you an effective and low cost solution for both mosquitos and other insects.

Talstar, and build a bat house. That's my plan for this summer.
