I have an ACD or blue heeler. Love her, but there is no such thing as “tired” for her

She will literally chase frisbees and balls for hours straight

Beautiful dog. Smart and powerful.

But I'll also say that a Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher and a Catahoula are right up there as well.

They aren't for everybody, but they have the funniest, quirkiest personalities.

I’ve only had labs except for a chocolate Dalmatian.

German short haired pointers and weimaraners are, I think, the best looking dogs.

GSP gets the nod for the best utility, looks and obedience.

Terriers are the best. Sir Winston is a soft coated wheaten - a handsome lad, to be sure.

We have two boxers; brindle male and fawn female. Our boy is the most talkative animal I've ever seen. Constantly trying to talk to us. Irritable at night when it's bedtime. Really really funny. He's dog aggressive though which has created some challenges.

Are toys or treats involved when around other dogs?

If no, what are you doing to help him become more social? Or is it avoidance the best course of action for your pup?

How old is he? Is he fixed?

constantly trying to socialize him. walk him alot with a chest harness. 5 years old now and not fixed. He's getting better, just a slow process. any suggestions appreciated!

Normally I would recommend a training collar to give you more control of your dog, however being that he is a boxer, a chest harness is appropriate for him (as well as Pugs and Bulldogs) due to them having a shorter face and bulging eyes). Eye displacement can occur in all breeds, but especially with a Boxer. So using a harness and not having anything tug on his neck / face area is the right approach here, in my opinion.

This may have a lot to do with it.

Introduce him to a very small pack (2 or 3 dogs) after you have exercised him. He'll let out a lot of energy that is probably pent up.

It will be best to keep your dog on a harness until you feel comfortable allowing him to go free off leash. During this time, it's less about you and more about him. Use less of your voice and more of your body to position him for introduction and understand how to come in between the dogs to allow for space at first.

You'll also need to find dogs of his size that are well socialized. If a scuffle breaks out, let it happen - they are usually very quick. Notify the other dog owners beforehand of what you would like to accomplish.

Dogs are part of a pack and fights do occur. But most won't end in death. A nip here. A nip there. The other dogs will let your dog know its place real quick.

And don't overreact as a parent. Calm. Assertive. But bring a spray water bottle or a shake can as backup in case a skirmish escalates and spray the offending party in the face. Citronella works very well too, and it smells good.

We have a boxer, he’s the most energetic playful moron ever. Love him to death.

Growing up we had a border collie, and i swear that dog had a better grasp of the English language than many grown people I’ve met.
