recently I used a new cut through that was a shorter route to my home - approximately 4-mile stretch with no businesses, homes, lighting etc...
I passed a cop speeding. He made a turn in the middle of the road, and proceeded to pull me over.
I kept my hands on the wheel until he got up to the window and he asked me for my license and registration. Then he proceeded to shine his flashlight directly in my face the entire time he stood there. I gave him the info and he stood there looking at it for a few minutes in silence all the while shining the flashlight in my face.
I asked him if he wouldn't mind moving the light, and he told me to shut the frick up. I asked him what his name and badge number was, and he said, I told you to shut the frick up, if you can read it will be on your ticket!" In my head I was like "WTF?"
He made me sit there a good 20 minutes or more and finally came back up to the car. Staying in character, he kept the flashlight directly in my face the entire time he talked. I started to ask him for his name and badge number again and he tossed everything at me in my car and said "have a good night."
Me - white, driving nice car.
Cop - black, short
Area - per census, 82% Caucasian
I wanted to ask him if it was because I was white, but the dude was already a dick. I did log a complaint as soon as he drove off via telephone, then at the station. Turns out he had multiple complaints, and I never even saw the courtroom. The ticket disappeared.
I have a couple more odd ones like this, but don't want to type a book. I'm not a fan of cops, but not a hater either. I like to think for the most part, they are good people, but the few frick it up for the rest.

I learned a lot of valuable lessons that night, and in the 21 years since, I haven't had a single ticket, haven't even been pulled over. I'm also glad tasers weren't around then.
Good for you man, very good tasers weren't around for your sake.

No doubt about this. My wife has been pulled over more times than I have and has never gotten a ticket. In college, she got pulled over 3 times in Tigerland in the middle of the day on the way to class. They wouldn't even tell her she did anything wrong. They would just tell her to look out for stuff and to be safe. Just recently she was pulled over and had the wrong insurance card. Dude didn't even ask her to look it up on her phone or anything. Just told her to slow down and have a good day.
I've been let go with a warning. But I've also had cops make me get out of the vehicle and put my wallet on the hood and step back with a light in my eyes. All for 15 mph over. Hell, one of the guys who let me go with a warning made me feel like I was definitely getting a ticket with how he treated me. But each and every time, was just polite and did what they asked. I've had nice, I've had mean, But they've all gotten fixed

I got a ticket last week where our group of cars was coming up behind a state trooper. I was following a car doing 50. A black Altima passed in the left lane going fast fast, then jumped into our lane and slammed the breaks when they noticed it was a trooper. I went around the other car doing 55 and he pulled me over for doing 66.
I vehemently disagreed with him and he said he was 100% sure it was me. I guaranteed him he was really after the black altima and he said he had no doubt it was me. neither of us were asses to each other. Just BS that I got that other driver's ticket. Not even sure if it's worth fighting since it's a trooper.

Had a similar thing happen to me last week when driving home through Arkansas. I have the cruise control set on 76 and I was the last car in a line of cars in the left lane passing some 18-wheelers. cops whips out so I move to right lane for him to get one of the cars leading the pack, but nope pulled me over for going 78 in a 70. I was polite when he asked why I was going so fast and my response was "I was following the flow of traffic." It sucks and I think the reason he pulled over was the Georgia License plates, and he knew I would not be returning to fight the ticket. I also gave him my Georgia Weapons License with my ID because I had to search through the console to find the fleet insurance card for the work truck and didn't feel like getting shot.

Ok, so tell him no. It's your right.
Telling the police "no" to consenting to a search carries severe risks these days. Look at that happened when a popo illegally pulled over/arrested the 18 year old kid and then proceeded to taze him for 20+ seconds, putting him into cardiac arrest- then dropping him onto his head after he "didn't cooperate" (he was unconscious and essentially having a heart attack).
It's your right to say no, just do so expecting that you standing up for rights may put you in the hospital or a casket.

Why didn't you let the cop do a search when initially asked if you had nothing to hide? Seems you could have avoided this trouble.
This is quite possibly the dumbest comment I have ever read on TD.

I regret I only have one downvote to give.

For some reason cops hate being told "no", kinda like rapists.

Got pulled over in Harahan (otherwise known as speed trap)for doing 50 in a 40 on Jefferson Hwy. Cop came and asked why my brake tag was expired? Also, why is you rear light cracked? Also, why don't you have your current insurance card (I had insurance)? Was nice and respectful and he only wrote me for the brake tag.
Pulled over on Tulane by the Criminal Courthouse early in the morning. Cop told me that he always lets the first person he pulls over go and today was my lucky day.
Pulled over twice in two bumblefrick MS towns driving kids to and from camp and got warnings both times.

Seems silly to refuse to blow if you truly hadn't been drinking. No point losing your license for that...

ou understand the definition of the word "limit", right? You exceeded it and got a ticket.
To be fair, it doesn't say upper limit. I'm curious if anyone ever used that argument in court.

Must have a lot of gay cops in LA.

I'd let you off with a warning.
I'd like to think I would be above using my uniform to pull babes, but I doubt it.

It's been years since I was pulled over for anything. Generally my interactions come at "safety checkpoints". They usually go like this.
1. Shut off engine and stay on the bike per cops instructions.
2. One cops goes around and takes up everyone's licenses. Once he has them all he goes over to a van where he stays for about 20-30 minutes.
3. another cops makes his way around taking pictures from the front, sides, and back. He also get's close up shots of any visible tattoos.
4. Another cops walks a drug dog around all of us while we are getting our pictures taken and DL's run.
5. After about 20-30 minutes the first cop comes back, gives us all our DL's back and we're allowed to go on our way.
The only thing that varies is sometimes they have the drug dog, sometimes not.
