And when you’re t-boned going through a green light by an uninsured driver - what do you plan to do ?

I’ll go buy another $4K car and part out the one that was hit

I would have to count on my health insurance

That’s a nice “gotcha”, but what if I’m walking down the street and an uninsured motorist hits me? Or better yet, what if I’m riding my bike and someone hits me and flees?

Life is full of what ifs, and it’s also one big gamble

We hedge our bets in different ways

I’m honestly considering dropping the Umbrella. It’s $95/mo

That seems rather high. We have a $1M umbrella policy and I believe the cost is less than $250 per year on top of our policy of 3/5/3 with UMI.

We have State Farm in Lake Charles. I have no idea how this is almost $1200 a year. I think I paid $600 with Geico.

Shop it. We have USAA. I don’t think they’re necessarily the cheapest, but overall, we have had great service from them, when needed.

Plus, we have everything tied with them (checking accounts, savings, credit cards, personal property insurance, auto, homeowners, etc.) so we may be getting a “better” rate for longevity and number of products we have from them.

uninsured motorist insurance would cover you in both of those situations.

My base insurance is better than what Geico offered in Louisiana. Louisiana is just a suck for insurance in general. I keep everything maxed out because of the billboards and assholes who dream of meeting my grill.

It’s just the Umbrella with State Farm is expensive. I’d don’t know if that’s something you can get independent of your primary insurer. Again, you know what you get in to with State Farm: a reactionary company that’ll raise your rates.

I’m told they are very very reliable on the auto side of things when you need them.

I will tell you I’m not in the business of making insurance companies, trial lawyers, and lowlifes rich

Funny, well not so funny story....I run someone over after they were hit on a bike in the opposite lane and it was entirely their fault for being hit. Jayriding.

Guy was a former convict and released somehow after killing his pregnant girlfriend. He and his current wife lived in a trailer.

The wife hires an attorney and they threaten to sue both of us or give them the minimum pay out.

Both of our insurance companies, different ones, both agreed paying was our best course of action even though they didn't want to due to the circumstances.

Luckily I had insurance or things could have gotten very expensive for me.

I don't like paying insurance either but you never know when something can happen because you don't control everyone else's actions or mother nature's.

That experience also taught me a lesson. My insurance coverage wasn't great and I didn't realize nor did my agent explain anything.

I know now and some POS isn't going to take what I have because they have a lawyer.

My wife was at a stop sign next to a major 4 lane hwy. A Democrat on a bicycle hauled arse across all 4 lanes during 5 o'clock traffic without looking and ran in to wife's car while she was stopped. After a delayed reaction he fell to the ground complaining about his right hip. Cops and fire depot came out. They all agreed it wasn't wife's fault. The Democrats old lady showed up in her house slippers making a scene demanding they call an amberlamps. By this time it changed from right hip to left hip. A couple months later I get a letter from my geico insurance saying they're settling with him for $35k. I carry 100/300 insurance. I was livid but said frick it. We have to go to work, don't have time to countersue a Democrat. Hope he enjoyed it, he was probably broke 2 weeks later.
