I have stuff to pass down but what I don’t bothers me. One of my uncles spent years obtaining our great great grandfathers land in hicks, la. He was one of the original settlers. When it was about time for him to go into assisted living, all I asked him was the chance to buy it for whatever he could get from anyone else, price was not a concern. About 100 acres. Three months later I heard he sold it to someone. One is the sisters said, “ you really didn’t want that land, did you?” I said, “ yes mam, I really did.” And that was my closest uncle. Dangit and dag gum. Why the crap did he not think I had the same feelings for the land he did? Idk.

My great grandfather’s anvil, branding iron and a cowbell. My grandfather’s duck call and compass. A few firearms.
At some point you have to realize that these are just material things and you can’t take them with you. It’s more important that you pass on your faith in Jesus Christ and the knowledge that they are unconditionally loved.

I have an old Parker 12ga double barrel that my dad passed down to me.. I'll pass it down to my son. His grandfather passed it down to his dad as well.

An elderly in-law told a story about how he had a sword like that, carried it all the way to the US, but somewhere in Louisiana, he “gave it to a little colored boy” on the train.” He said he got tired of carrying it.

I have my grandfathers wedding ring. It floated around with him the pacific after his boat was sunk in ww2 and shook Doolittles hand (obviously wrong hand but still) before he took off. The only truly priceless thing I own and will be passed down.

Prostate cancer. Granddad died from it. My Dad as well. So far me and my two brothers are clean.
ETA: My two boys are in college so we will have to wait on them.

Wow. Just, wow. Here I am, thinking that your talking about something important- like family values, strong moral fiber, or the keys to success and/or happiness. But, nah. Money, jewelry, possessions. That belonged to those who earned them. Are you incapable of making your own way?

Quilts made by my great grandmother. Some of the squares in the patchwork quilt are from her grandfather's Civil War uniform.
