What are the OT's thoughts on outdoor kitchens?

How about a little change of pace from the numerous race threads and enjoy the OTs favorite past time: Trashy or Classy.
Here are a few examples:
I want to get a trashy/not trashy ruling here. Personally, I think they are trashy as frick and will probably be ripped out of backyards for being the wastes of space that they are in 15 to 20 years. By then the average homebuyer will look at the houses that were built in the early/mid 2010's and ask themselves "Why on earth did people build these eyesores that rarely get used?"
I can't imagine these setups looking all the great after being exposed to rain/wind/dirt/sand/sun/snow/etc for 24 hours a day for 15 years. Looks to me like something a guy or family would use frequently in year one, a little less in years 2 and 3, and then virtually never again after that.

If outdoor kitchens are trashy I don't want to be classy

My ex girlfriends mom and stepdad cooked in their outdoor kitchen almost every weekend for the 2 and a half years we were together.

If you're loaded then do what you want.

Not trashy, but it's one of those trendy things that most people spend more time building than using. Future homebuyers will be tearing them out.

I really like them but I enjoy spending time outside and BBQing/grilling or just cooking a rice and gravy outside just makes it taste better IMO

They can be awesome if done right. If you cook much you are already going to likely have a good size wood/charcoal burning smoker and probably a gas grill as well. Basically an outdoor kitchen with proper built-ins around those two with a small fridge for beer/etc, an ice maker and a couple of cabinets for storage, add some out door seating and a nice TV. It's awesome and is used all of the time.

Or you know, not buying a house with an outdoor kitchen, thus saving the expense of tearing it out.

pretty much. imo, the outdoor kitchen better be accessorizing something else in yard an not be the focal point. if your kitchen is all you got, you've likely just wasted monies on something not really necessary. You got a pimp pool, sure keep pimping.

Here is an example of trashy outdoor kitchens
Spending $20k+ on a home reno is not trashy

outdoor kitchens have been around in higher end homes for many years, they are only now becoming more attainable. And people have been remodeling instead of moving since the housing crisis

Not trashy, but unless you are in a year round climate conducive to outdoors a majority of the time, AND entertain to an excess, then I think they are just showy/unnecessary.

Do you spend a lot of time outside already? The outdoor kitchen could be a very nice upgrade in your life.
If you don't, then this will not change the fact that you're an inside person and will end up being a waste of money.

Can you imagine how hot it would be cooking outside today?
