GTFOH! Every engineer makes the job harder than it has to be. They are also entitled cry babies.

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t be a teacher if I had a do over. I’d follow the money. That said, it’s a very admirable profession for those that are passionate and great.
This statement shows me that you have a skewed view on the value of education. You read the news and see slutty teachers, shootings, and low performing schools in Louisiana and Mississippi. The statement is insulting to the hard working teachers that are told to make chicken salad out of chicken shite. Some of the smartest people I know are teachers. I’m also sure I could find a laundry list of things that were poorly engineered.

Find a teacher to tell him what the job is like. He might love the idea of teaching but in between breaking up fights, confiscating vapes, and dealing with entitled parents, he won't have much time for instruction.

When I started LSU in the fall of 1997, I went with the idea of getting a degree in history and becoming a teacher. By the start of my second year at LSU, I had an epiphany and concluded that I did not have the right temperament to be a teacher. I looked at my grandfather as a role model, who was a teacher and school principal from the 1950's through the 1970's. I realized that times had changed, and I probably would end up slugging one of the little shits and getting fired within the first week. I ended up switching my major over to business administration.

According to Matthew McConaughey, He gets older but the girls stay the same age.

HS teachers don’t need a pencil sharpener. If the kid can’t bring his own pencil or borrow from a friend, he’s probably too far gone.
Cheap beer, thank you very much. Sorry you are a product of a forgettable education.

After reading all the OT posts that get posted here, I'd assume one of the benefits most people sign up for of being a teacher in general are underage poon and pen. It gets posted about a few times a week

So you sabotaged yourself.
You let those teacher and nurse TikTok videos get to you.

Your son sounds like a good kid. Clearly he had some good teachers helping guide him along the way. Sounds like he is on a great path.
Gee… I can’t really think of any benefits either.

What is best for your kid is for him to do what he is called to do. If that is teaching, which by your own admission he'd likely excel at, then so be it.

I’m a high school math teacher on year 7.
Benefits: Guaranteed summers and holidays, feeling like you’re making a difference, relationship building, job stability (I’ve been in two districts and it’s honestly really fricking hard to get fired/let go. you have to be a complete idiot)
Cons: not much money, if you want to make money you’re going to be working a ton (I.e. I coach and work other athletic events year round), the few kids that are pricks really suck, district admin is always dumb even the good ones.
Honestly what district/school you end up in can make or break everything. I hated the district my last school was in but both sets of building admin we had during my time there were great and made working there fun. Covid killed the school for me though as the kids just got to be too much to deal with. I was on the brink of quitting all together last year. Just had enough.
New district is infinitely better. The top admin at least obviously cares even if they don’t always make the right call. Kids know how to behave. There’s parent support. Just so much easier to actually do my job.

Well, you get to screw students so there’s that.

I have a friend who wanted to be a HS coach and the guidance chancellor in HS told him "you don't want to do that, do something that makes more money". He went to college, graduated in general studies because he didn't know what he wanted to do that he liked that made more money.
He graduated and found a sales job, but over the years had quite a few jobs. Some really good jobs, it wasn't for him. He started his own business and did well and started coaching his daughter's softball teams, but once his business was on a good track, he got certified to teach... Just getting the insurance was worth it for him.. But the school needed a volleyball coach. He never coached volleyball in his life, but they asked him if he would be interested. He told them yes. He ended up taking a team that didn't win very many games the year before and won district, got district coach of the year.
He absolutely loved it. Then something with his business came up and he had to give it up the end of the semester.
My point is, if he is passionate about doing it, let him do it and he will figure it out. You don't want him doing something he really doesn't give a shite about. Let him make his on path. If he becomes a teacher then realizes he doesn't like it, its better than not doing what you really want and wondering if you would be good at it.

more than ever, the country could use good teachers.
I'm 32 years old and every teacher I know my age did it as a fall back. They don't give a shite about your kids. I had terrible teachers as well though. The only ones worth a damn were Vietnam Vets.
