When I was a young child, I attended the same church as the Purvis. I still remember his mom and sister’s names. I believe she and I were in the same Sunday school class.

Around 2000 when that truck leaked out all that bone eating chemical on I-12 near Cedarcrest and it shut down I-12 and traffic was an absolute shite show all over BR.

Not sure if it's been posted, but a Tanker Truck wrecked and blew up on I-310 7 or so years ago. There was also a fatality from a nearby vehicle I think.

Jumped the levee? What year was that? Died?
That happened around 03 or 04. Dude drove off the end of brightside going about 100 mph and they think he was going around 60 when he launched himself off the top of the levee. Flew about 200 feet and landed at the edge of the water. Died a few days later in the hospital.
Remind me--was that an accident or a suicide mission?

Also killed was Tracy Benton from Woodlawn
She was a friend of mine back around 89-91. But lost touch in high school. I remember seeing her picture in the Advocate when this happened. Sad.

G. Great girl. Great Mom too. I used to spend the night over there and he practically lived at my house. His death was possible harder on me than my own brother’s death. He was a super intelligent and charismatic kid , ( my best wing man) he would definitely have been a physician- his goal since I knew him. RIP.

Big one for my HS was a wreck that killed a star athlete riding in the back of the car with her best friend driving and her boyfriend sitting next to her, both of whom survived with no long term damage IIRC.
What made it tragic wasn’t that she was an athlete as much as that family had gone through all kinds of other trauma before it including her mother dying of cancer some years before
Early 2000s Episcopal student? If so, I think I know who you’re talking about and that was just awful. They’re all awful.

In 1985 or 1986, a few son-in-laws and a future son-in-law of a federal judge in New Orleans were in a bad accident late at night on Orleans near where it becomes Marconi. I think there were a couple of fatalities.
Also, Chappaquiddick on the Bayou in the 1990s.

We had a client that had an 18 wheeler tire fly off a truck, punch through one wall of their house and out the other. That one was pretty memorable to them.

In July of 2009, Shreveport's First Baptist Church had a bus full of people (mostly kids) blow a tire near Meridian, MS and flip several times, ejecting several people and trapping at least one girl underneath. A bus full of Alabama National Guardsmen happened upon the scene and actually flipped the bus upright to free the girl, but she died after a few weeks in the hospital. She was the daughter of an associate pastor. I believe there was (thankfully) only one other fatality, but obviously it was an awful tragedy. I remember it pretty vividly because my then-gf's mom was the Sunday school teacher (she wasn't on the trip), and she fell into a depression after the wreck and resigned from the position shortly thereafter.
I firmly believe in God, but that's one of those ones that's pretty tough to reconcile.

I wonder if our playground is named after him. Never knew that bit of history.

NASCAR's television ratings rose considerably after Dale Earnhardt crashed on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.
