When I was a kid back in the day, not going swimming until 30 minutes after you ate was a thing. I have no idea why, but since mom said it, then so it was decreed.

Kind of in the same vain, there is a segment of the society in New Orleans that believes you should not sleep for a couple of hours after eating Red Beans. They believe it will choke you in your sleep. Every dishwasher we hired believed this; their mom's had told them.

For me it was an hour. Never understood it. I used to ask my mom "so what happens if I go in the water right after you eat" and she would tell me some bullshite like "you will get a stomach ache".
