About to go on a long road trip and got the free trial. Outside of ESPN and sports talk, what are some good stations for good talk topics (no politics please)?

I’m not a music fan so not interested in those.

NEtflix is a Joke Radio, Channel 93. Snips of all the comedy specials currently on Netflix.

Barstool can be pretty entertaining. Probably only about 30% sports talk.

good cause I find they play the same rotation for months.

But to your point, there are 4-5 comedy channels that can be entertaining at times. CH 90-94 or 95 I believe.

I don’t dislike music, just gives me a headache after a while and I prefer talk if riding in a car. Always have. All I listen to on my drive to work is the local sports talk.

Ive been a Sirius XM subscriber for about the last 12 years.. unlike the OP, i do like music, but i find myself mostly listening to the talk stations.. if you have the package that includes Howard Stern, he’s on Ch 100 and 101, and is still entertaining after all these years, though less ‘edgy’.. i also like the lineup from Ch 80 thru Ch 88; it’s a mix of ESPN channels, Fox Sports channels, NFL Network and a college sports channel (ESPNU maybe?)... i also like the lineup from Ch 99 thru 106; there’s a standup comedy channel in there, as well as Trunk Nation (rock music talk), but the programming on those channels can be hit or miss.

If you dont like politics then avoid the lineup in the 120s, they are mostly political channels (Progressive Talk, ‘Patriot’ talk, POTUS channel, etc)... I have to say that after over a decade of listening to Sirius , i dont think i could ever go back to terrestrial radio.. especially since i’ve lived out of state a majority of that time; Sirius helps me avoid listening to local stations where they all talk about only the sports teams in whatever town i happen to be in.

If you're into golf, the golf channel is around channel 70. there are about a dozen different sports talk channels. Google them up.

I used to enjoy listening to Radio Classics, old serial radio shows. It’s mostly dramas and mysteries. Some are pretty cheesy, but I found them entertaining and a nice break from the aural pollution taking up most of the airwaves.

if only they didn't play the same music over and over on every channel.

I find them to be hit or miss.. sometimes they have interesting topics and i’ll linger on their show for a while.. other times, they’re way too ‘dude-bro’-ey and it feels like their shtick is aimed at the 24 year old just-post-college guys, which i’m definitely not anymore (still a guy, ha, but older) so i cant really relate.

I dont really listen to music often enough in my car to notice a lot of repeating songs.. but i do listen to a lot of music on the Sirius app on my phone while working out/running and it seems like there’s a good amount of variety to me.. i usually have it on 70s on 7, 80s on 8, 90s on 9, Yacht Rock and a fair number of random channels, so i think there cant hep but be a lot of variety since there are so damn many music channels.

On a side note, the one drawback i find from listening to exclusively satellite radio from about 2007 is that i am completely unaware of anything resembling modern music.. i’ve always been an old soul musically anyway, but when you can have complete control of what you listen to, versus being subjected to whatever the local pop music stations play- there’s zero exposure to modern music.. up til recently , i was barely aware that people like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars or Lady Gaga existed, much less they they are somehow considered ‘superstars’.. guess that could be construed as a positive though.

I checked and Vivid is only available to stream online, not on the car option. Sucks because it’d come in handy if I wanted to crank one out on the drive.

I guess it’s not that popular. Why would people want to hear old, washed up pornstars have discussions?

It's called The Morning Jam with Jim and Sam and its more than pretty good. On channel 103.

The show is pretty high brow humor mixed with a dose of morning zoo zaniness. Ol "Let em in Sammy" is a big Elizabeth Warren fan and will go off on a political tangent from time to time but Jim usually reigns him back in. Jimmy likes to keep it fun and cordial.

Perfect to listen to with kids in the car.
