Maybe I'll be one to drop dead from it, but I am having a hard time getting worked up over this crap. So its just a bad strain of the flu?

The problem is the spread of the virus. Also it has a much higher mortality rate than the flu.

The big risk, the thing that’s causing Italy to have a close to 7% mortality rate, is overburdening hospitals.
They also have a shite ton of old people. It's like Florida on steroids.

Anyone else secretly hoping it wipes out the human population? I think it would be kind of cool to see the end of mankind. We had a good run. Landed on the moon, invented the fleshlight, & tigers had a perfect season. What else is there to accomplish really?

Because it's possible to limit large gatherings while also not shutting down America's economy.

this is a measure to have 'life' still go on as normal, but in an abnormal way.

i'm fine with what they're doing. If they feel that the spread of this infection is about to blow the frick up, then canceling gatherings is their way of at least trying to limit or contain the risk of infection.

if they did absolutely nothing and let life go on and this infection spread to everyone, would we be blaming the powers that be for not at least taking these steps?

the fricking health infrastructure can't handle tens of millions of sick patients at the same time given the long quarantine lead time and array of severity.

i hear the ncaa is going to play the games in pantomine.

neither team has to touch each other since its an invisible basketball and the refs will decide if the shots go in or not.

It's gonna be hard to top that. All downhill from here.

Eh. 24 kids and 8 coaches on a basketball floor, but not having 18K in the stands with tickets and concessions?

I'd say that's a lot of economic damage.

I've seen estimates that the mortality rate is between 2-4% while the seasonal flu is around 0.1%. So 20-40x the mortality rate of the flu.

The CDC estimates that 20,000-52,000 people have died from the flu since October 2019.

Covid-19 seems to be more infectious than the flu. So if not contained, how many deaths are we looking at?
