It's remarkable how many people on here have lost a parent at a young age. It really serves to remind to take nothing for granted.

On my 20th birthday, found out in the middle of a huge surprise party that was going on at my house while all of my friends were over along with a lot of people I didn't know. Surprise!

Some sad shite up in here. I'm going to call my Dad in the morning. He just hit 63 and I'm def not ready for him to go, but I feel like we don't do things together anymore like we used to.

Reading all this shite has made me realize how lucky I am. And shouldn't let whatever time either of us has left go to waste.

I was 39, dad was 63.

He came to my son's t-ball game on a Friday (last time I ever saw him). Talked to him on Saturday about my brother and his baseball team that was playing in the LHSAA baseball title game. Died on Monday. I was at my daughter's awards day for 5th grade. I called him when I left to tell him the awards she won. Didn't get an answer on either phones which was weird. Thought maybe he was just in a meeting. Got a call at work about 30 minutes later telling me he had died at home on his way way out the door. Heart Attack. He died in the 10 minutes between my mom leaving and him leaving for work. His dog was found by his side.

This thread. One of my biggest fears in life. I don't know how I'll be able to cope.

I was 22 when dad died, he was 49. 10 years ago this January. Can't believe it's been that long. Feels just like yesterday. Miss my pops a lot. He was my best friend, and I was coming off of the worst years of my life as a dumbass and we were just starting to really get to having fun together as adults man. Could only imagine how great it would be for him to be here now, we would be calling each other all the time lol that was my boy! Miss you dad.

And Rest easy to my Maw Maw, she passed away night before last, she was 100 years old. We have her funeral tomorrow.

I was 58, he was 92. I took it well because I understand the cycle of life. The worst thing about losing a parent is knowing that you are next in line.

We had just really started to get to know each other as men... the father/son phase of life had mostly come to an end and we had this begun the next phase. He'd always be dad, but getting to know him in another way was damned cool. But that didn't last.

My entire world changed after that. I'd never lost anyone close to me before - that was hard; however, the way my extended "family" treated my mother and I afterwards opened my eyes onto the true evil of people.

Just celebrated my Dad's 90th last weekend. I feel very fortunate. He is a great man.

Had my Mom die in front of me (massive heart attack) the first weekend after school started my Sophomore year at LSU. That semester was a total loss. She was 53 and I'd just turned 19.

My dad is still kicking after 2 heart attacks and a stroke. Some of his heart is damaged and he can't do what he used to, but he's around. My mom passed away in 2011 when I was 23
