For much of the last week, the White House wouldn’t answer questions about the stockpile of COVID-19 vaccine doses.

Maybe this is why. It turns out that members of President Joe Biden’s administration have yet to locate 20 million vaccine doses that were distributed to the states last month, according to a new report.

A Politico report on Saturday said “Biden’s team is still trying to locate upwards of 20 million vaccine doses that have been sent to states — a mystery that has hampered plans to speed up the national vaccination effort.”

“’It’s the Mike Tyson quote: ‘Everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the mouth,’ said one person with knowledge of the vaccine effort who’s not authorized to discuss the work. ‘They are planning. They are competent. It’s just the weight of everything when you sit down in that chair. It’s heavy,'” the political website reported.

Millions of doses of two vaccines have been distributed, but Politico said once the vaccine shipments are delivered to the states, “responsibility for tracking them has been left up to states’ individual public health systems. The administration then only gets an update once the doses are actually administered and an official record is submitted.”

“‘I think they were really caught off guard by that,’ said one adviser. ‘It’s a mess.'”

On Dec. 8, then-President-elect Biden vowed to deliver 100 million vaccines in his first 100 days in office. “I’m absolutely convinced that in 100 days, we can change the course of the disease and change life in America for the better,” Biden said in remarks from Wilmington, Delaware.

But before Biden even took office, the Trump administration had already hit that number.

I know some people (65 and older) that have gotten the first dose, but the roll out has been particularly slow in Louisiana. Oddly enough West Virginia has been kicking arse in this area.

I don't know about you, but I don't want my dose of Covid-19. I'm kind of happy they lost it.

You indirectly benefit if everyone around you gets the vaccine.

So you should be upset even if you don't take it.

Look, we have to let the government stay in control of these things.

What are we supposed to do, employ Chic Fil A to help figure out how to move people through lines for vaccination?

This thread, judging by the title, is not about the vaccine.

The entire country would be vaccinated in 17 days (even while taking Sundays off)

The best thing the government did was compress the approval schedule for the vaccines during operation warp-speed. Literally getting some of the bullshite red tape out of the way was their biggest contribution.

Distribution and administering of the vaccine can be handled by domestic, private supply chain networks easily. It's not like we are trying to vaccinate remote parts of Africa. We have millions of doctors, health care professionals, nurses, etc. already here at work every day.

I'm all for blaming Biden, but isn't it possible that a large percentage of those doses sent were sent by the Trump administration?

This seems like Trump policy that was rolled over by the current administration. Trump was all about letting the states coordinate their own Covid protocols. Seems like Biden would take much more of a federal government route, given his love for Federal control.

Sounds like a state election issue at least.

Yes, the article is an indictment of the prior administration's efforts. Teh Biden administration is still playing a bit of catch up because the transition started so late, and they were not fully looped in by the prior task force.
