Sir Alton Sterling memorial fund being added to Triple S receipts. Last time I bought Kratom for my crack whore, I noticed it.

What about the stores that set up groups asking for money as you walk in/out

Sams club has a new group out front of there store every week and it is quite annoying

I chuckle when tab is like 19.97 and they ask me to round up to 20 and then say sure.

I do the same when TJ Max or similar stores ask if you'd like to save 10% on your purchase by signing up for a store card and your total is $21.78.

Why yes, I'd love to save a whole two dollars while you put an inquiry on my credit....

I always tell them that I hate kids. The look on their face is priceless. Nothing like a multimillion dollar chain hitting me up to 'feed the children' when I haven't seen them giving away any meals to kids. But I'm sure they'll end up with the tax exemption over their/our donation.

No thanks. If I want to give to charity, then I'll do it straight to them and cut out the middle man.

Surely I’m not the only one tired of being hit up for donations at the drug store, the grocery store, the sporting goods store, etc. while checking out. Why has this become so prevalent?

Just hit NO

An interesting fact - If you click to give at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS or wherever, eventually they give the accumulated finds, deducting whatever they can from the "trouble" of collecting it, and claim the gift as a deduction on their taxes. So, you give the money, and they get the tax break from your contribution.

Just ask them if they would like to donate your entire purchase price to the worthy organization they have partnered with. If so, offer to go drop off a check as opposed to paying the store a dime.

I was in Petco a week ago and bought a few things and got asked at the checkout if I'd like to donate to the SPCA.

I’ve always heard that these corporations use the donations as deductions for taxes. Makes sense why everyone jumped on board and it’s a great reason to say no. If I’m donating to a charity then it won’t be to the benefit of a billion dollar company.

Bingo.

Sometimes they will pledge X amount to a charity but include the POS donations. So they are only truly giving what they pledged minus what their customers gave to them. It’s bullshite.

My Publix finally installed self check out. Yesterday I’m minding my business scanning my groceries and a Publix dude interrupted me to ask if I’d like to donate to whatever it is there are collecting for.

I'd rather donate my money to a charity of my choosing than let some giant corporation get a tax break for charitable donations with my money

Great point to give if they give me lip when I say “No”.

A major problem with this is say a store like Publix collects $1 million from a few pennies each transaction. They donate the money, and take the tax deduction. By donating you’re basically donating to a businesses tax bill.

Why the frick are these million and billion dollar companies begging for pennies from us poor to donate? These companies collect our donations, then get tax credits for it and then runs ads about how much money they donating to these charities. And most main stream charities are scams anyway.

It’s a huge money float scheme for the retailers. You give them money today, they use it to fund their operations for however long until they donate it, then THEY take the tax deduction for it.

Correct. I say no.

Unless they will give me a balance sheet of said charity. I want to see the “ air travel “ first. Then lodging and meals. Now let’s talk about administrator salaries.

They never produce a balance sheet. Because it’s all bullsheet.

I ask if the store will provide me with a receipt listing said charity as I itemize for my taxes.

I usually get a "duh" look.
