Thank you sir for what you did for us. I hope we can pull it together as a country and honor you and the others who sacrifice for us

Thing that is wild to me is the MOH is no joke normally, but to get it during WWII and standing out against all the other heroism is something impressive for sure.

Two days later, on Feb. 23, 1945, he famously destroyed enemy emplacements with a flamethrower, going forward alone into machinegun fire, covered only by four riflemen.

His citation states, “he fought desperately for 4 hours under terrific enemy small-arms fire and repeatedly returned to his own lines to prepare demolition charges and obtain serviced flamethrowers,” before wiping out one enemy position after another.

On one occasion, he “daringly mounted a pillbox to insert the nozzle of his flamethrower through the air vent,” which killed all enemy occupants and silenced its gun.

Holy hell, what a badass.

For him to see this once great nation devolve into its current state had to be heartbreaking.

I had the privilege of hearing woody in person tell the story of his MoH action. Pure insanity.

What a man is capable of once he's lost or accepted the fear of death is truly fearsome.

Dying in a hospital named after you is the sign of a badass.

Looks like he spent most of his life in West Virginia. Things move a little slower there and not as effected by the outside world.

Growing up my dad would tell me of his time in the Navy. He'd been to 37 states and 6 other countries. Always said that WV maybe poor but he wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Yep, now you understand why our foreign enemies never want us united as a country again, as well as promoting turning our men into "soy boys" or trannies.
