Were you forbidden from hanging with certain kids when growing up? How did they turn out?

Two come to mind for me. One is perfectly normal, productive family man. The other is the derelict my parents thought he'd be.

Reminds me of the story Sean Penn told Connan when he ran into the real Jeff Spcolli as an adult..

The real Jeff Spicolli

Don’t remember how the kids we were forbidden to hang with turned out one of the two brothers we spent time with up the block ended up going to Angola for dealing.

Turns out that he was the plaything of a young wife in the neighborhood and was likely dealing to keep up with her, as I think she had very powdery tastes.

Found out he OD'd earlier this year while still living at his parent's house.

So probably good advice from my parents

My parents never specifically told me to not be around certain kids, but in high school I definitely was wary of being caught with certain people because they were such a wild card. Most turned out pretty decent, but a few guys were who I thought they were and became bums.

Not sure there was people I wasn’t allowed to hang out with. I remember one guy my dad didn’t like, he went to the marines and no idea after that. Honestly most of the bully’s I remember turned out decent. Not sure if all did but I had personal friends who were bullies though I wasn’t. Most regret being that way but they were young and stupid, good people now

No, but Had a friend who’s parents wouldn’t let him hang out with me. He dropped out of high school, been to the pen twice, and fights a drug addiction. Me, I got a Bachelors degree, married with kid, and seem to think I’m doing ok. Go figure huh.

I never was forbidden to hang out with anybody. My Dad raised me in such a way that I avoided kids that were bad influences.

My friends and I were the “bad kids” that parents would “ban” from their house.

Honestly, most of us “bad kids” are doing pretty well. I’d even go as far as saying most of us are highly successful. The kids who’s parents tried to shelter them from everything in the world are the ones who went buck wild when they finally got to leave home and get some freedom and it’s ended pretty badly for most.

Yes. I grew up in Sec. 8 housing. Those kids are either dead or in prison. All of my friends who stuck together have gone on to live perfectly normal american lives

No.

All the kids at St. Clement of Rome were pretty good kids back in the day.

Agreed, I know one or two of these as well. There's definitely a happy medium between too much and not enough.
