Yes, for a little while until I was sexually abused by the older boy scouts.

My mother volunteered to be a den mother in cub scouts, she was a house wife at the time. Completed my merit badge whatever faster than anybody in our parish/sanction whatever. Went on to boy scouts and was headed to be an eagle scout faster than anybody in the state. Then got busted for eating a brownie. :rimshot:

Eagle Scout here sad to see the turn things have taken over the last 20 or so years. It was an amazing program to develop young boys into men. Just about everything I took pride in with Scouts has been destroyed and lost.

Yep. Enjoyed it during the late 60s and early 70s. We did a lot of camping and white water canoeing. Ushered at Auburn games. Just a lot of good memories. One of our scout masters would sometimes tell us stories of his career in a bomber in WWII.

I was in a extremely strong troop in a town with a naval base. Lots of kids, lots of dads. Very strong scoutmaster and very strong assistant scoutmasters. 2 dads were navy seals, one was a SERE instructor, one was a Vietnam seabee/medic. And most important, one dad was a CPA. We did major stuff every year- Washington DC and Maine high adventure in 87, high adventure 88, world jamboree in 89, philmont in 90, east coast bike trip and 2 canoe trips in 91. Summer camp every year 3rd week of July.
We had one dad grab a kid (not his)by the arm one year at summer camp and he was kicked out of the scouts within 12 hours. Conversely, we had a guest adult from England slap a kid across the head with a canoe paddle for lollygagging in the rapids- nothing happened to him- that kid was a clown

Ironically, I was a Cub Scout until I got kicked out for eating Brownies.

I’m not sexist, but it’s a shame that the Boy Scouts allows girls in troops now.

Girls have been scouting crew and explorers for 40 years. Co-ed.

BSA is not co-ed. Girl troops. Boy troops.

The only difference between girls in crew and explorers vs BSA is that now girls can actually earn the rank of eagle.

I think you are confusing buds with eagle.

I did Cub Scouts for a few months but our meetings were on Monday night the same time Alf was on so I quit.

I was. Until they asked me to leave because I didn't want to waste the night sleeping on a campout. So, I decided to help the landowner out with a "prescribed" burn. It wan't like I tried to charge him for my services. Ingrates.

I made it to Bear scout and quit. Lack of motivation. Heck I played violin longer than I was in the scouts.

Every LSU home game we ushered Lot A right by the stadium and ticket office.

My son's troop ushered that lot as well. He went to Philmont twice, National Jamboree, many trips hiking, white-water rafting. He made Eagle as well.

Troop 37 Stevendale Baptist. Lots of fun camping trips and saw many an LSU game ushering. Made it to Star and quit to go work.

If he was 769 we probably know each other. We went to National Jamboree as well.

Yep, made Eagle, too. I was not sexually abused. I was, however, a weird kid, especially in Middle School, and Scouting taught me a ton of life skills that really helped me grow up to be a relatively well-adjusted and social adult. I think it’s a real tragedy how scouting has declined over the last 20 years. It really was such a wholesome, fun, and informative activity for growing boys. A lot of my closest friendships were formed through scouting.
