Why do you say this?

The influx of corporate SJWs has totally changed the culture. Many of the long time residence are retreating to the burbs.

Now, Seattle may have the best suburbs in the country

Most people don't go to bars to talk to strange dudes in camo.

People aren't open to casual talk here because we are in touch with nature. And in general, human beings are destructive and pompous assholes. I can't blame Seattle for not being open to liking outsiders. It's no different than southerners calling everyone a Yankee.

I'm referring to the northwest in general. I visit Portland every year and I have no issues with it. But then again, I guess you have to fit into the northwest culture.

With that being said, someone keeping to themselves doesn't always equate to being unfriendly.

My wife's parents live in Silverdale. The people there are friendly, and the 3 times I've been to downtown Seattle I didn't notice anything negative about the people. But, in my opinion, the city of Seattle is overrated. The surrounding areas are fantastic.

It's a west coast thing. For whatever reason there are a lot of folks that way that seem to lack proper social development

Northwest culture no longer exists. Not in the sense it would nice did. Portland, Seattle, Spokane are very different cities.

That's what I was going to post.

You do get weird looks if you go out of the way to talk to people sometimes but the guy that asked if you knew each other sounds like he was just an a-hole.

Seattle is worse than Portland because not of only the regional coldness but it has a Scandinavian element that makes it more reclusive. The "Seattle Freeze" was worse when I moved here in the mid 90s, techies are replacecing the Nordics.

Liberals and northerners in general are obnoxious. Not sure why they are this way.

In my experience, people in big cities are more stand offish compared to rural areas. Rudest city I've ever been too was Boston.
