It's become far more corporate. Seattle is pretty international, like I said earlier a lot of the old timers went to the burbs or islands

Social development? I think some of you are full of shite with this "You don't make casual conversation with complete strangers? I do it all the time" narrative.

yeah I can see the irony. It's common courtesy. If someone holds a door or does some other nice gesture, at least give a smile and a nod. It's not hard.

Callous bitches who think they're too good to say thank you deserve to be called for their shite.

Isn't Boston more of a "we stick with our own and don't really like outsiders/yuppies type of town". I could say this about numerous cities around the south.

Had a guy from Cali come down for some of my apps training. He said "Your accent throws me off you're actually very intelligent". I was like wtf.

im not necessarily referring to talking to strangers, but people on the west coast seem to be more detached than other parts of the country.

Socially developed may be the wrong term, but maybe social courtesy? or General outgoingness

Exactly, but this place likes to go into overkill mode when it's any other region besides the southeast.

The northwest has some really great aspects, but you cannot deny that people are more friendly in the southeast.

I think that's a sweep generalization because of tailgate culture. But, believe what you want.

People in Seattle, a large concrete city, are in touch with nature?

You have to explain that one, bub.

Outside of downtown, this wouldn't raise an eyebrow. Lots of outdoorsmen in the NW.

Born and raised in Alabama, but I'd probably give you the same response.

Not to mention, being in touch with nature does nothing to exclude small talk.

It also depends on what area of the city you are in. When I lived in Capitol Hill, I could strike up any number of conversations. The same has been generally true of where I live now way out in the burbs. The Seattle Freeze is a thing, but it is a bit overblown.

The people here are hard to deal with, extremely rude and not personable at all.
