Which reminds me, did anything ever happen with the shootings at the IHOP on Siegen?

The restaurant hiring a ton of work release prisoners meant those guys were sitting ducks when the bad guys they robbed went looking for them.

IHOP wouldn’t necessarily have liability there but they took a big PR hit locally for the murders and for quietly having a lot of back of the house guys on work release.

I gotta show this video to my dad. He's around that age and could make the life threatening mistake of complaining about his food at a fricking fast food restaurant. Because that's a totally normal place to get killed.

67 years on this planet and it ends getting sucker punched by a fricking animal at a Wendy's. Holy shite.

You’re confusing “bad guy” with responsibility. Wendy’s isn’t the bad guy. The POS that took a swing is the bag guy. But guess what, Wendy’s hired him, and assumes responsibility for what the employer does on their property.

Serious question: how would convicted violent criminals ever get employed? If a company like Wendy's can't hire them, then who can?

Wendy's would have been smarter to relegate him to the kitchen area, but working the counter is public space where it's difficult/stupid to harm customers.

This isn't ATT sending a convicted rapist into a home to hook up an internet connection. It's not a school hiring a convicted child molester. If violent convicts that have served their time can't work at a Wendy's, then where can they work? And I'd wager that either the Fedgov or the state that this happened in has incentives to hire convicts.

Employer would typically not be liable for something like this under vicarious liability. Maybe if it is a negligent hiring, retention, or supervision situation.

At what point will you people stop patronizing fast food restaurants? Let’s look at this shall we? -The ‘food’ is all made from a bunch of fake chemicals and fillers. It’s loaded with seed oils, high fructose corn syrup, and harmful chemicals that are linked to cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease etc. -The employees at these places are low IQ and uneducated. They are the lowest common denominator of society. Why would you willingly interact with people like that? It’s almost if these places are dangerous not just the food but the people contained in them as well. Why go through all this? Make a burger at home with real meat and real ingredients.

Shut the frick up. The old man just wanted a frosty.

I guess we can’t go to grocery stores or gas stations because sometimes the clientele is rough around the edges.

Common sense background checks eh? I've heard that before. So as said above, who can hire these people? We are not at a point in this conversation where people have said others cannot get a job because they are a liability. What do we do with these folks that cannot pass a common sense background check to work at a wendy's?

Finding something not customer-facing for them at the least, especially if the crime was violent.

IHOP on Siegen used work release guys but had them in the back of the house as dishwashers and other jobs that didn’t interact with customers. This only got discovered when two of them were murdered by other crooks because they had ripped off a dealer.

A janitor typically has low interaction with the public. Etc.

Did you guys see the latest Wendy’s commercial with a bunch of nerdy white people working as employees?

All the national brands do that. Chuck E. Cheese had a commercial where all the staff was clean cut white people haha. They all like to dump on white people but realize that's the only safe image they can use for advertising.

work release guys

I use them at my place. There isn't, or shouldn't be, violent or sex offenders. They are mainly drugs offenders and such. As far as Terrebonne goes, I sign a contract that states I will keep them away from communication devices and meeting with people. I presum BR is the same way so that removes work release from this equation. Fast food has a terrible employment pool and not every one of those individuals has a record. My point in all of this is separating what the business can realistically control. The current environment is to sue the business because their insurance will settle instead of fighting a legal battle. The business's premiums will rise or they will be dropped forcing them to look for another carrier and usually pay more.
