the Zircon, which Putin claims is unmatched by any Western missile.

It is so incredibly fast that it blows up before it is even launched.

Based on...?

I know a lot of people like to believe we have all sorts of secret capabilities, and likely we do but rods from God are not one them. The reason is pretty simple there are no SHLLVs to actually get the rods into orbit. Even if taken one at a time the US only has one HLLV operational and it has only been launched 5 times.

It is one of the things people like to fantasize about but the launch vehicles needed for a project with this mass simply don't exist right now.

Which means it may be unmatched by western missiles but seems on par with North Korean ones.

Every time I see a video of some Russian military tech like tanks, jets, or missiles and read the comments of people drooling over it in the comments I laugh. They make crap, and even if they get it to work, they can't afford to make enough of them to matter.

Based on that it's just a tad difficult and absurdly expensive to send 20 ft rods of tungsten into orbit

They just need to dump some water on it. No need to evacuate anybody

top secret Zircon hypersonic missiles exploded during tests. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, lightning has stuck a Siberian military base and caused a series of explosions just four days after huge blasts previously rocked the same depot in Achinsk.
Well done, Mr. Bond.

If an experimental missile is still in testing, why the frick would it have a radioactive payload?

Speculation was it was being launched from a nuclear powered submarine or surface ship, which was damaged in the explosion.
