The TD Balcony Party being a short walk from Emeril’s was a class move by Chicken in 2019.

That's a 100% fair position. Not everyone has the same tastes or interest in fine dining or elevated dining options.

It takes all kinds of interest to make the industry work.

Similar that I would never pay more than $100 for a pair of tennis shoes but I get that sneakerheads appreciate what that industry can mean in a way that I don't.

Correct. This isn’t for you. Others think differently.

Elsie's Plate & Pie

Went once. The appetizers were great especially the crawfish queso with homemade pork rinds (sorry mr cardiologist) . The entrees were pretty good but not memorable. The triple berry pie nachos was the single best desert item I have had in years. Not a big desert at a restaurant fan so small sample size.

Really solid meal but nowhere near Michelin type place imo. Off the top of my head, Roberto's River Road would be more worthy. Mansurs as well.

I was at Tsunami pregame and Willie's Chicken Shack post game. Somehow made my 6am flight to Dallas.

Note that Elsie's is only a selected restaurant which is below the star or Bib Gourmand standards.

You must. not get around. Most major American cities have ten restaurants better than the best of NOLA.

This is a more ridiculous take than the one you responded to. There might be 2-3 major American cities that have ten restaurants better than New Orleans best. But as this thread has shown, the definition of best is highly subjective depending on what you value in your dining experience. When I'm eating, I personally value the taste of the food over everything else.

No doubt it’s a personal preference. New Orleans has a lot of very good restaurants that are reasonably priced. I think we have more per capita than any other city I’ve been to, and I’ve traveled extensively. But very fine dining? I haven’t tried Emeril’s since the redo, but I’ve been hearing about it and would like to try it. If what I’ve heard is true it would stand alone in NOLA. Most “Fine Dining” NOLA restaurants are tourist traps with tourist menus.

Was it before or after October 2023?

It became a different restaurant in Oct 2023

Participation award infecting the restaurant bidness now

They are all over…restaurants, car manufacturers, medical providers, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc. You name an award there is likely some form of back door payment in associated with the award. Plus some times it is not just money exchanging hands you might have some confirmation bias built in to a ranking.

There is a reason why some businesses pay to be the top in search results and rankings.

I've been to Emeril's a dozen times. But i have never been to the new version of Emerils. It isn't the same place.
Also Meril is my favorite of his places.

Same here, and Meril is better than the old emerils. Apparently the new emerils is the tits.

The only downside of Meril is the birthday firework. I was there one time when five tables had birthdays and the whole place smelled like gun powder.
But they have the andouille crusted fish i like and the bbq shrimp.

I wish new Emeril had crab cheesecake and not salmon. I don't love salmon.

My favorite is the Bayou Choice Awards the Houma Courier does.Every year they get different advertisers to proclaim they were selected as best what ever if you get enough votes. The joke is that unless you advertise in the paper you pretty much ineligible to win.
225 Magazine in Baton Rouge is the same way.

I've now been to 9 Michelin Starred restaurants - both in the US and international. All were 1 star except Emeril's. I'd say confidently Emeril's(>2023) is better than the other 8.

None of the Brennan's restaurants are in the same category IMO. The last few times I've been to Commander's I've left incredibly underwhelmed in all aspects - food, service, decor. It all feels dated. If I ever get to eat at the Chef's table maybe my opinion would be different.

I'd put Saint-Germain 2nd or 3rd overall.

Zasu was a curveball and wasn't on my radar. Will have to check them out.

Was surprised August didn't make the cut, but completely forgot about the Besh stuff.

Restaurant R'evolution recently redid some stuff and added a tasting menu. Really thought they might get more recognition.

All that said, small plate tasting menu's are not for everyone. I get it. Have family members and friends that I've convinced to come along but they'd probably never go back. Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz.
