My LA fitness requires a mask. It's usually not enforced while inside, but there is one employee who goes around telling us to have it at least over the mouth.

I own a gym. We are requiring masks to enter and leave but not while working out.
I agree... Its really dumb, but it's what we feel like we have to do in order to not be fined or shutdown.
Its been a rough 4 months for the gym business. This isn't going to help. We would almost rather them force us to close then allow us to be open with all the restrictions.

Masks on unless working out. Germs are not spread whilst working out.

The issue in AZ was that in many gyms....they were not maintaining the protocols they were supposed to when Ducey opened the state up.
They became very lax in making sure customers were distancing, cleaning protocols, etc.
Did every gym do this? Of course not. There were many that tried to do the best they could with the situation so they could open and keep everyone safe.
I go to LA Fitness but had not returned after it opened up (I bought a spin bike while it was closed and started using all the weights and mats, etc I already owned and did Peloton rides via their app and other workout videos for strength training). So I can't personally speak to if my LA Fitness location followed the protocols or not.
I don't think they necessarily needed to close though. I think if people had taken more proper precautions...it could have been ok.

Isn't the virus now said to only spread through waterborne particles like secretions? If so, wearing a mask in a sweaty gym seems as effective as wearing sock as a condom.

So if that is your thought...I guess you are saying there is no way to be protected at the gym so they should just all close instead??

Red’s sent an email saying entering and leaving but not while working out. Haven’t heard from CrossFit yet but I doubt they enforce anything. They were open during shut down and don’t really care.

I live in God's country of Mandeville. I didn't think these viruses affected us. Oh well, I will wear one, don't want them to close down.

Saw a gym on Facebook say you just have to wear it in and out the door. Can take it off and workout. Whats the point?
Overall?

My kickboxing class said we have to wear masks to enter, then we can take them off for the workout, and then we have to put them back on. The building is like 2,000 sf and it’s one open building. It’s so silly but whatever.

Mine is you need it to enter but can take it off for your workout. Seems pointless.
it is entirely pointless.
mitigation isnt the point. fear and compliance is.

I was wrong, only in EBR Parish can you take them off while you work out

Q: Do I need to wear a face covering while at a gym or fitness center?
A: Yes.
EDITORIAL NOTE: An earlier version of this article stated that masks would be required while in gyms, but not while working out. That answer was specific to East Baton Rouge Parish only. According to the governor’s mandate, masks will be required while working out.

Yes - all these interventions make us weaker, more vulnerable, and less happy.
It’s toxic.

Physical fitness is correlated positively to immune system health.
First, I understand the people's need (desire) for an indoor gym but it is sad we correlate being able to be in a gym and the ability to be physically fit. Much like kids have become indoor creatures it is now adults as well.
I would argue it is easier to gain cardio-pulmonary fitness and immune strength outside.

Got the e-mail from PAC today in Mandeville. I'm guessing the order will be to wear it unless you're at your machine than you can take it off to "work out". At least that's what I got from it.

Yeah, PAC is where I saw the sign.
