Being Catholic in Alabama was also considered an oddity. As a kid you were:
Baptist
Methodist
Baptist-light
Alt-Baptist

If someone said they were Jewish and the person next to them said they were Catholic, you would have two rare creatures in the wild beside each other at the same time.

Wrong south Alabama has a lot of catholics.

Why is Nackadooshish, in the middle of nowhere, older than New Orleenz on the Miss River?

Natchitoches is on an old Indian trade route that predates Europeans. Even the Indians thought the New Orleans area was a bad place to build. And it’s only 5 years older than New Orleans, not that big a deal

Craps and Venetian Blinds were started/invented in New Orleans. The first movie theater was in New Orleans as well.

-Louisiana Tech University was suppose to be in Calhoun, La (just outside of West Monroe.) However, the founders were on a train drinking and failed to stop the conductor in Calhoun, therefore ending up in Ruston where they then founded the school.

I had always heard it was planned for the hammond area, or somewhere on the north shore.

I wouldn't say it was "planned" for the northshore, but it was one of several sights Walt Disney was looking at to place his "east coast" park. Then, Louisiana politicians got involved and Walt moved on in his search.
