Looking for good restaurants and bars and just things to do.

(Think Del Porto, Ox Lot 9, Gallatoire's, etc)

Go!

Gus's fried chicken is a must

There aren't really many good nice restaurants, at least along the lines you're asking for

Hogs & Hominy is great.
We went to Memphis over Memorial Day weekend. Here's a thread I did.

There are. We just don't tell tourist trash where they are.

Flight is pretty good. As far as BBQ I would go to the BBQ Shoppe.

Go to the Gibson Guitar Factory and take the tour. My husband is a musician and I spent about 4 or 5 hours in that place waiting for him to pick out a guitar. I really enjoyed the tour itself!

I've seen many of your posts, your idea of fine dining is an Olive Garden out in Cordova

I used to run up to Memphis quite often in 2007. Back then the BBQ spots were Interstate BBQ and Central BBQ.

Is BBQ Shop better?

No matter what people tell you, take it from a native Memphian- don't go to the Rendezvous.

Restaurants:
Paulines
Brother Junipers (breakfast)
Folks Folly (steaks)

For fried chicken I prefer Jack Pirtles over Gus's.

For BBQ, I like Topp's over any others in Memphis.

Bars: Flying Saucer and Silky Sullivan's

ETA: check out the Stax museum if you like classic soul music
