Weekend/ Holiday Email Traffic

Everybody has those people that you know are going to send emails in off hours to show their “dedication”. I once had a boss that would delay send emails until 6-7PM solely so he could say how late he was working.
Today I got 7 emails from a certain person that I know for a fact isn’t at work today. And to add insult to the absurdity this person was long gone by quitting time last week. But you know, gotta send those emails so we all know how hard they are working....
I know, dear Facebook, but it frustrates me that there are still people that put stock in shite like this with regards to performance.

Or maybe they were doing more worthwhile sh!t (face-to-face meetings, closing business, etc) from 8-5 and sent the emails when they had time to come up for air?

Maybe you should work harder, then maybe you wouldn’t feel so insecure.

I don't read emails after hours. If you need me you better call or text. Screw working all of the time. I started this personal policy a few years ago.

I've stopped coworkers mid sentence and told them we can talk about work tomorrow, I'm off now.

I'm not a big government, nanny state type but France outlawed requiring employees to read email outside of business hours. I wish companies would implement this on their own rather than using the government though.

French workers have won the right to ignore business emails that arrive after hours.
A new labor law that took effect on Sunday gives employees the "right to disconnect" from email, smartphones and other electronic leashes once their working day has ended.

Same.

Most of the time I see this, it's because a boss is complaining about seat time or some other such nonsense.

I didn't even get my work email set up on my phone when I got a new one a few months ago. Nobody has said anything to me about it. I leave work at the office once I walk out the door.

It's convenient to me because I can reply in meetings or when I'm not at my desk.

I had one boss who would always say stuff like "leaving already?" when I left for the day. It always pissed me off because I was there at 7am while he showed up at 8:30-9.

Weird, I "won" that right a long time ago. (And I'm a high-functioning, well- paid professional.)
"Do you want a work phone?"
"No."
