Nah. Sorry, bro. But they were legally married the first time. That's not really how marriage works.
No worries.

I had to go to one two weeks ago the same night of the Miss st-LSU game

except they had done the church ceremony a few days earlier instead of later.
10-1 says they signed the contract at the church ceremony. But it doesn't matter.

Many people don't want to get married in the church because many people want a laid back, casual wedding at a different venue than inside a church.

Of course they did.

Not at all. They are still going to celebrate the wedding party / reception day as their anniversary.

That was my only point. They got married in the church. From a religious and civil standpoint. The other "wedding" was just a party. Again, doesn't matter unless you are arguing semantics like soccerfrau.

Just don't go to the wedding. Your attendance is not mandatory.

I get that. Many people don't get married in the church. But the vast majority of weddings I have attended in South Louisiana have been in the Catholic Church. What are we even discussing?

Well unless the signing of everything is part of the wedding ceremony, this would always be the case.
For mine, we signed the official documents later the same day.

Weddings...during football season.
Here's a tip: Next time you forget, just check the thread title.

Right. Don't do it.
If you have to, schedule for an off week, or an away game, or a pushover opponent.
Or a Friday night.
Or just accept that some people will be pissy and might not attend.

TheCaterpillar had one of these, but it was fortunately both a LSU and Ole Miss away games for both teams. He had TVs around the reception, and scheduled the ceremony optimally when neither team would be playing. Both won, and since his friend base tends to be 50/50 Ole Miss and LSU, it actually made for a damn good time.
But for people who schedule it during home games, there's a special place in hell reserved for them.

You really weren't discussing that.
You aren't all that clever, but keep patting yourself on your wide back.

You are talking about weddings only in the legal and/or religious sense, but one one else in here is. You keep mentioning "wedding party" but again, this thread is about "wedding parties" keeping people from watching football, not the signing of legal or religious documents.

You should probably stop while you're only marginally behind.

I have a friend from college getting married on Halloween this year, which is also a football Saturday at USM. Who the frick does that?
Halloween is my favorite holiday, so it has crossed my mind if and when I eventually get married and Halloween happens to be on a Saturday, just go balls to the wall with the theme. Doubt any bride in a sane mind would be up for this.

Well I'm certainly not gonna get into with you because I don't have all day to sit here and go back and forth like I know you will.

Does this irk anyone else or is it just me?
No, doesn't bother me. Just don't go to the wedding if it bothers you, I doubt they care if you are there or not.

There's nothing to say. Artie is right, you're wrong.
