Exactly
You poor babies! I’m so sorry this happened to you and I’ll pray that you’ll be able to survive such an incredibly devastating inconvenience.

They had BR in a level 4, NO s 3. They missed the forecast here. That’s all I’m saying. It was not an historic event as they predicted.
Sorry you and your property didn’t get destroyed I guess. Geez…

We need some MAGA weathermen to give us the real news and not fear monger.

It definitely is a balancing act and all it takes is that ONE time to really deal with a destructive aftermath. Joplin was a prime example of this.
NWS issued a “Tornado Warning” and people didn’t take it too serious because they were desensitized to all the previous warnings over the years that didn’t pan out.
I’d hate to be a meteorologist in those situations. Nicholas Cage in “The Weather Man” did it justice.

Also is the untold adverse health effects and loss of enjoyment that comes with the stress of making a huge deal out of an event that will almost certainly not affect you.....like covid
Very difficult to impossible to calculate that but unnecessary stress and worry is something most people ignore for some reason.
Do they look back and do any retrospective or after action reports? Of course not! We are too busy keeping you safe with our 8 social media posts a day!
None of that matters - all hail the priests of the temples of Syrinx!

lost count of how many times I read the date April 27, 2011 mentioned when describing this system in the two threads.
There were comparisons and mentions of 4/27/11 because of how serious yesterday’s threat looked, but no one said that yesterday would be equal to 4/27/11. If you interpreted it that way, that’s on you.

The National Weather Service typically does. I know NWS Birmingham usually does a write up about the event once they are done surveying damage and reviewing the data.

You people criticizing the weather reporting are total clowns. 32 deaths spread out over the SE merits making everyone aware of the potential storm threats.
No it doesn't, it scared posters in this thread! They cancelled a parade! It scared them!
So many ridiculous posts in this thread from a bunch of weak pussies complaining the forecasts "scared" them for no reason.
"I only got 10 minutes of rain but my wife and her friends were scared all day, SCARED! The whole town shut down (really one small business closed) because everyone was scared! They cancelled the St. Patrick's parade because they scared everyone! It's not worth it, these meteorologists are all idiots and are milking every forecast for views! We shouldn't have to be scared! Next time just don't warn us until it's on top of us, that way no one gets unnecessarily scared!"
The entire justification for this railing against mets is that they scared people into being cautious and weather-aware. They altered plans out of caution, so SHUT IT ALL DOWN! IT AINT WORTH IT

Sorry, I didn’t realize I had to specify that since I was replying to someone talking about how this would affect people emotionally (fear, hysteria) that I was referring to how these situations affect people emotionally. I’ll dumb it down next time. The information is given, that’s all that the weatherman can do. How you handle that information is on you. Instead of being fearful, I chose to make sure I’m prepared for the worst. Fuel, generators running, everything in from the yard, etc, knowing there’s a 99% chance that nothing will happen to my family. At the same time, I know that there is a 99% chance that it’s is going to happen to someone else. And it did.
Yes, schools and businesses closings do affect people. So to that point are you just of the opinion that they should just let it ride and hope that everyone figures it out? What if it had been a school day and Taylorsvill HS had been in session…
This “well it inconvenienced me and nothing even happened here” attitude is an extremely narcissistic viewpoint.

the constant text from emergency management in the New Orleans area are ridiculous. Currently under flood advisory until 8pm and it has drizzled for 5 minutes.
My favorite episode from this event was Fox 8 in New Orleans. Their weather app got stuck sending out the same notifications over and over again. For nearly 2 hours, app users kept getting the same alert about a tornado watch and the Kentwood Tornado.
At least some people took it in good stride since they admitted the issue and had difficulty resolving the issue with the Weather Company to resolve the issue.

Have to say I agree. Arkansas and Missouri not in the risk area, but got destroyed.
This is a false statement, FWIW.
People here are trying to criticize meteorologists for not getting the locations of tornadoes correct, days before the fact. Meanwhile, many of you can't even get simple facts correct when those facts are easily accessible.

It should, but everytime this subject comes up again, now double the number of tards will repeat the line about no graphs/warnings for these areas on Friday night.
Stupid people type stupid stuff.

This needs to be emphasized. A dozen-plus people died up there and there were no alerts for them. Meanwhile, the red risk blob stretched just far enough west to include BR and NO, which were nothing burgers.
Not only are we getting facts wrong, we're saying they should be emphasized.

Weather forecasts require a bit of common sense on the part of the consumer, unfortunately, that seems to be missing.

Baton Rouge rescheduled. Was not a big deal and the responsible thing to do. Had nothing to do with fear. If anyone is overstating things, it's you.

It's getting more and more difficult to predict considering. Is what it is.

Tornadoes are predicted better now than at any point in history.
It just takes an incredible mix of conditions for tornado genesis to even be possible and even when that all comes together, it's an educated guess (at best) as to where tornadoes will actually touch down.
Add to that, the fact that tornadoes are usually very isolated events and it makes the task of pleasing everyone to be virtually impossible.
