i mean its been my observation that people lose weight when they have an intrinsic motivation to do so, not when they are being shamed

I am willing to bet you can find more stories of large people losing weight due to a moment in their life where someone shamed them so hard it flipped the switch more than stories of positivity and prevail in weight loss.

Just shame them until they lose weight or kill themselves. Either way the gene pool is better off.

i think you will find an equal amount of stories where people were shamed, felt shittier about the whole ordeal, and then ended up eating more because eating is their coping mechanism

you can preach a healthy lifestyle and making smarter choices without tearing people down. some people do react positively to tough love, or whatever you want to call it. but there are also people who dont

Real talk it's health scares that drive people the most. It's what was the catalyst for me. For every person you shame that may try to get healthy you have equal number that will go into depression and get worse.

Now I agree obesity is a problem but verbally abusing people into submission has never been a good way to do anything ever.

Take smoking for example of something we were able to reduce drastically. We didn't scream and holler at people for being trashy until most everyone put the smokes down. We educated them on the dangers and offered solutions on how to help them quit.

Same problem can be tackled for obesity only problem big governments pockets are lined with money from food companies. Any time you hear about how to lose weight the solution is always get off your arse and exercise.

When in actually the solution is completely changing your diet and nutrition intake. Congress's pockets get lighter if you start talking crap about food though so the wrong message gets out there.

This I can agree with. Then however, you must agree that personal accountability is key for an individual.

No we made laws that make it pretty hard to smoke anywhere now-a-days.

Nobody from any food corporation told you to keep eating pizza , sugary drinks, and processed foods. Again personal accountability.

Which again falls under personal accountability.

I’m losing weight now. Was in a hotel and came out of the shower in front of the big mirror. Looked at myself and said “ Damn you are fat. I would not frick somebody with a gut like that “. On the Ideal Protein Diet. Pounds are coming off. Never hungry or uncomfortable. This is not an advertisement.

Sounds like something an advertiser would say...

There is truth there I agree but it's not 100% of the problem.

The fact is what is good and bad nutritionally has been up for debate forever. 30 years ago fat was bad and sugar was cool. Now sugar is bad and some fats are cool.

Not one diet works for any one person either. There is no be all catch all way for a person to lose weight.

You can go to Mcdonalds and get a salad thinking you are being healthy only to pile on more calories than a Quarter Pounder. Oh fruit is good for you well that half pound of grapes you just ate is another 700 calories.

The fact is most people don't know how to manage what they eat in a good way and no two bodies are the same. I work with a guy that is 38 and never been over 130 pounds in his life. This guy eats constantly all day long and cannot gain a pound. If I smell a piece of fried chicken I gain three pounds.

It took tremendous effort and research to learn how to eat healthy for my body. It also cost money to speak to nutrionists, doctors, and personal trainers to even start in a smart way.

Maybe I'm more sympathetic because I have been through it. But calling someone a Fat Fuq and expecting them to just figure it out from there isn't going to do anything either.

If you want to fix the problem we can at least make the information and tools easy to access.

This is 100% true. It was SHOCKING to me when I learned how low calorie a burger can be. It is the fries that make a burger meal so horrible. I can make a burger at home on brioche bread, with 80/20 beef, for ~500 calories. That's not bad at all.

Lots of people will order the salad that has fried chicken tenders, half an avocado, boiled eggs, tons of cheese, ranch, and bacon... which often is double the calories of the burger on its own.

And yes - no one diet works for all people. Some people go low carb and restrict WHAT they eat, some people eat small portions, some people fast and only eat 1-2 meals per day.. it is just whatever fits best with your lifestyle. Personally, I think a blend of all 3 is best.

Yes there is.

Eat less, move more.

Expend more calories than you take in and you lose weight.

It works for every single human on this Earth.

I just naturally gravitated to a paleo or primal diet. I like meat, I like fresh raw vegetables, I'm not a big pasta or bread fan, and I never eat sweets.

In fact I find myself having to add fat to my meals so I'm getting enough calories.

Avocados and olive oil are my friends

eat less what?

Calories, Fat, Sugar all none.

This is too simplistic. If I eat 1000 calories of gummy bears a day. and 1500 calories of vegetables Will I lose more weight eating the gummy bears. By your thinking I will.

Most large people can't control it and have tried diet after diet and can't lose weight. If you have large genetics unfortunately you're probably stuck being large

Calories in calories out dude. You will lose weight by burning more calories than you take in.

You're bringing up something I didn't say by comparing foods. Yes of course eating vegetables will be healthier, but we're talking about weight here. Not cholesterol, etc.

At the end of the day, if your goal is to lose weight, you need to start your diet by scaling back how many calories you eat. If you eat 3000 calories of broccoli, you'll still be fat.
