No, make those who VOLUNTARILY choose to eat and sell the shite pay taxes. If you want to choose to eat shite food then you should pay the cost.

Our food has become so garbage that it's become a net negative. You completely cancel out the food cost savings from shitty cheap food when you can pile up $300k in medical costs to the taxpayers, or more in some cases.

Inflation keeps up and it'll soon qualify for a "luxury tax".

For those professing "freedom" I say repeal ALL luxury taxation on things like alcohol, tobacco, jewelry if you are so adamant against FF taxation. Don't be hypocrites... unless of course you're one of THOSE people, ya know, the type that supports the Left. Hypocrisy is their natural state of being.

Either everything is open to taxation, or nothing should be. Freedom doesn't pick and choose winners and losers for the population.

Elect better legislators if you want better legislation.

SIN Taxes NEVER go away, because even if the tax had the desired effect of eliminating the sin, you just created a revenue that the government bases it’s budget upon, and it will just go to another sin that needs to be curbed solely because they have to have the revenue you addicted them to. They’re never going to adjust their spending. They’ll simply go after another sin they convince you that needs to receive higher taxes on to fund their spending.

It's would be a consumption tax... you don't consume, you don't pay.

Food stamps should prohibit even moderate sugar consumption. You're adding future healthcare costs to the taxpayers every time you allow someone on food stamps to purchase big sugar sodas and other high sugar garbage snacks.

There should be NO fat people on welfare.

It's absolutely absurd that there is no limit on the types of "groceries" that you can buy with food stamps.

Why is fast food any more unhealthy than say Hooters? We gonna start taxing pizza places too? Ice cream shops?

Who decides what is healthy and what is not? The same folks who waffle back and forth over whether eggs are healthy or not?

where does it end? when the only thing not considered unhealthy is grass?

You're not wrong but there are a lot of obvious things that we can agree on to be very unhealthy....refined sugars...trans fats....these provide ZERO health benefits.

How about any number of preservatives? I'm sure we can come up with an extensive list of stuff that is clearly not good for human consumption that doesn't effect our habits too much.

Do you enjoy paying taxes to keep morbidly obese welfare recipients going?

you'll be taxing most of the grocery store if this is your standard.

You're advocating for taxing most foods on our shelves these days.

Part of the problem OP hasn't addressed. Sure, we can start with the obvious fast food places like McDonald's, Wendy's BK... (would Popeye's qualify as fast). Do you include the buffet places? If you start including buffet places, will that also include the hot line restaurants like Izzos, Cava, Piccadilly?

But then why stop there, what about the quick service places like AppleBee's, Chili's, Panera? Then you get into the "unhealthy" restaurants where Hooters would drop. Finally, we just increased the taxes on all prepared foods, including what will be considered prepared food at the grocery stores.

Good. Think about the relief on the healthcare system and think about the benefits of people being thinner and healthier to the social scene.

Somehow Europe has figured this out. Some of you are either blind or you never go out into public long enough to experience the grotesque overweightedness of the American public. If we were just "overweight" that would be a drastic improvement.

Or we could make these semiglutide drugs as available and cheap as possible.
