I've heard of people rigging up watering systems for their roofs. Like a sprinkler on their house

I'm sure your McMansion with its stucco exterior and neighbors 10ft away is very nice.

Maybe it's something to do with old houses, or maybe it's something to do with raised houses. Over the past two houses I've lived in, I've come to the realization that there isn't a damn thing you can do to keep your house under 85 all day in South Louisiana. Both have had new insulation and relatively new, serviced air conditioners, but nope.

Eta: I keep mine at 76 and just let it run the entire day. Never turns off

My thermostats stay at 69 at all times whether we are home or not. My power bill has never been over $120. I'd pay at least double that if necessary to keep it below 70.

Undersized AC unit coupled with crappy attic ventilation.

My camp is off the ground and has 2 12000btu AC window units.

I can get the temps down to 60 and keep them there.

What's up with 78 being the optimal degree? What's wrong with 76? To me it feels better and cheaper than 70-72 all day long.

76-78 is optimal for when you're not around, IMO. It won't kill you to come back to that temp.

But unfortunately, some people (women) have determined that this is an acceptable universal interior temp. We need to fight to keep 72 standard.

I worry it will stop working at some point if it keeps running, so it has more to do with not wanting to running it all the time.

Hate to burst your bubble, but this is inevitable.

Both of those situations would suck

When you have been in the heat for a while then you go inside where the temp is 76-78, it feels good, but if you are inside and the house is 75-76 and it goes up to 78, thats when it starts to feel warm.

I don't put my AC up that high. It's way too warm for me. I do find that the Varnado fans help in summer, though, when the AC is trying to keep up with the heat.

Speaking of fans, does anyone have fans in their attic? If I ever have a home built, I think i will put fans in the attic. I remember mentioning to someone that I would consider adding 1 more ton than I would need and they told me that wouldn't really do much of anything. Is that true?

I believe this will throw off the moisture levels in your home.

Can I get that at Home Depot? Or do I have to order online?
