Water pump has failed in Beaumont due to rising water on neches river. Anticipate river to reach peak by Saturday and then workers will be able to assess damage and repair pump. So we're looking at at minimum 4-5 days with no water.

Can you use salt water pool water to flush toilets? Issue would be pipe corrosion. I would think this would be ok for short time, especially given pool water should have been significantly diluted with 50 inches of rain. I'd rather not look at my week old turds if I don't need to.

Use the water. Drain pipes are PVC.

Man I'm feeling your pain. Good vibes your way.

After Katrina is was so damn hot, it sucked without any power for so long, but the kicker was no water. When you can't even take a cold shower or wash the stink off or fill the dogs water bowl up, that's when for real misery starts to set in.

I agree. Just wanted to get a consensus. I'm at hospital now. When the nurses started filling up the patients tubs I had my wife fill up the bath tubs at our house too.

We have food, drinking water, even electricity so I'd rather not leave. Nowhere to go really anyway.

It'll be fine flushing salt water. The clog remover and draino products that ppl use are far more corrosive than a little salt.

Worst thing I can see happening is maybe you corrode some of the guts out of the top tank but that would take weeks and is very easy to fix. Use it.

You'll be fine, we went to a camp in Cocodrie for 25 years. To flush the toilet we walked to the dock got a bucket of water and poured it in back the back the toilet. Pipes were fine. My only concern in your situation would be the sewer system, is that down as well?

I don't know how mobile you are but if you can get out you can go to a truck stop and take a shower for about $5. After a couple of days you will be tired of taking whore baths in the sink. A good hot shower is a life changer.

Good luck to you an yours.

This worry gets processed under "NIMBY".

If the shiite flushes "manually" and actually leaves the premises, the folks downstream from me are on their own.

Speaking regionally, there have been, are presently, and will continue to be massive dumps of raw sewerage into the floodwaters in the affected areas of Texas.

It's part of the charm of a huge flooding event.

Dependw on age of the house. Some older homes have either black steel pipes or even copper if the house is old enough.

That said salt water should be fine for a little while. Be careful ysing it if you use a sump or sewage ejector, using anything stronger than water can detetiorate the gaskets over time.

Home Depot 5 gallon bucket works pretty good in these situations.

Not an issue, especially for short term.

I would rather not whether I needed to or not.

Orangutan hang off a tree in the back yard. Or front yard. Your pick.

It might sound gross but as a last resort we just do #2 in the bowl and #1 in the tank. That should get you a couple of flushes per day.

Update: Pool water was the answer so far. No issues. Even the in laws have come and collected water in buckets for their home. Had a refreshing bath in the pool as well today. Felt like ten bucks afterwards.

Salt won't be an issue, surely you have washed plenty of salt, pepper, and other seasonings down your sink or the dishwasher drain before.
