Water does not mix with gas, there was no water in the gas. You learned nothing. There might have been water, and gas in the tank... but no water in the gas.
You are correct contrary to popular belief it is impossible to mix water with gas especially at a volume large enough for the dealer to do it on purpose. But water can get into fuel tanks accidently be various means, and given enough time the water will collect at the bottom of the tank where the fuel pump pick up is. Airplanes have sample ports in the bottoms of the fuel tanks to check for water since that is where it will collect.

Fuel samples lol good times. Good thing we always snuck them from Huey aux bags.

With older cars it wasn’t a big deal, but I haven’t dealt with water through fuel injection so I don’t know if there are additional problems with that.

Straight help here -
Our local Walker Texaco had the same problem 6 months ago. A fuel truck failed to seal the gas tank after filling - a large rain fell and drained into the underground storage causing water in the fuel.
Our car stopped running, required towing & dealer service totaling approximately $1200. Other than the hassle, we were fully reimbursed 10 days after submission of receipts- shite happens.

Happens more than you think. Casey's is notorious for it around the midwest. Always thought it was weird their premium was always the same price as regular unleaded.
water being in gasoline has literally never happened.

Anyone know what kind of damage could have been done.
None permanent. They'll just get the water out the tank and fuel lines. Your car will be just fine.

Filled up 8 five gallon tanks and my Yukon on 8/29 (Hurricane Katrina). Drive about a half mile to my house and Yukon starts sputtering and goes dead. Called a tow truck and when the guy arrives he asked did I get gas at the station down the street.
It turns out that all of the gas suppliers were running low on fuel so they got the last bit of gas from their supplier’s tank. It was a brown color and looked like mud from rust at the bottom of the tank. Supplier took care of everything but it f’d up my Yukon. Took it to the dealership and they drained tank and had to replace all of the fuel injectors. They had a very difficult time getting the crap out of the fuel lines. It took two and a half weeks. The truck never ran the same (maybe just in my head).

We used to put rubbing alcohol in the tank. Guess it dispersed the water or something. But it worked.

Keep your receipt and document your conversation with the store; who you spoke to, etc. Contact your insurer to make a claim.

Water does not mix with gas, there was no water in the gas.
True water will not mix with PURE gas but it will mix with ethanol which most gas pumps dispense E10 today.
Ethanol will adsorb water and it will burn (not as good) just like gas will. The problem is when there is more water than the ethanol will adsorb and then you wind up with pure water sitting on the bottom of your tank and that is exactly where the fuel picks up.
Drain, flush, new filters, and should be good.

That would buff right out of an F250.
Water in the fuel system of a newer F250 will run you about $10k.
