My son had a seizure while I was watching him. I couldnt drive at all.
I wasnt drunk (or even had one drink), I was just a nervous mess.

Y’all sound like some pansies. The guy isn’t asking if it’s okay to get blackout on 4loko.

That's never okay. Kids or no kids.

Really? You're gonna go there? You literally just asked if it's okay to drink while watching your toddler. Give me a fricking break.

Have you never taken your kid to a party somewhere that the adults were drinking? We go places with our kid and have a couple of drinks and drive home, I just sip on them and don't get shite faced. I do the same thing when I'm watching my kid alone, just sip on a drink or two and still be able to drive if need be

I’ll have a couple beers but not get drunk. That’s just shitty parenting if you get drunk by your kid alone. Maybe after he’s in bed have a few more.
I had a situation once where I had a few beers and my son had to be rushed to the hospital due to a reaction to medicine. I could drive but it made me think what if I had a few more. They probably would have arrested me for child endangerment.

A drink or two is OK in my book. The object is to not get smashed, for obvious reasons.
IF something should happen to a kid if drunk and babysitting, you probably couldn't live with yourself afterwards.

Watched my four month old all day last Sunday, watched the Saints, sipped some bourbon along the way. Everyone survived.
I'm not sure whether the naysayers in this thread are the dreaded millenials or the even more dreaded boomers.
ETA: Also a young child makes it almost impossible to get smashed. I was lucky to sneak in a couple sips every quarter with my rambunctious lil dude

Some of you are acting like kids are impossible to deal with while fricked up (I do understand the concerns, so dont get me wrong). OP, how old are your kids? This should be no different than any other day you are at home with them. But then again, you are asking the O-T
