That's a licensed profession?

You just buy stuff and then move it around your house until it looks right...

I agree but That's not what is happening and at this point is a bad faith argument because it ignores reality.

NPs must pay a physician for the right to work in louisiana, or work for a big box.

There is no real oversight, physician must review what... 20 charts a month or something? Its basically nothing. Thats not oversight.

The real solution is to put them under the medical board, but the problem with that is the medical board would rather them not exist at all and would kill the concept of midlevels in Louisiana.

Giving physicians free money does not constitute oversight and is literally the type of bullshite this thread is about.

Somehow other states have managed to figure it out. Louisiana never will.

Let me make one thing clear: using the power of govt to restrict entry into your profession, in order to protect your salary, is one of the most corrupt things I can imagine doing

This thread is now a River Boat Captain thread.

Just read a 2017 in depth Article on this lady and how she was affiliated with Albertson's and their subsequent decision to fire her.

What is the name of this documentary please? Would love to watch it.

Adding, a pro bono rights advocacy firm took this case. They were able to change the system but she had unfortunately passed by the time LA caved.

These are the issues citizens should focus on. National politics - to me - is the distraction playbook many here have argued is the least of our problems. Always pay more attention to city, county and state government. Where we lay our head matters so much more.

They were shutting down hair braiding shops because they weren't "licensed beauticians" .

Technically those are decorators. Designers are supposed to plan for handicap access and fire safety stuff.

Oh. Yeah, in fairness to LA I probably couldn't just handle that myself.

quote:

LOUISIANA HORTICULTURE COMMISSION

The purpose of the Horticulture Commission is to license and/or permit, and regulate persons engaged in horticultural businesses. The commission licenses individuals, through examination, for the following professions: Landscape Architect, Landscape Horticulturist, Landscape Irrigation Contractor, Arborist, Utility Arborist, Retail Florist, and Wholesale Florist. The commission also permits the occupations of Nursery Stock Dealer and Cut Flower Dealer. The law authorizes the commission to govern the qualifications and practices of persons engaged in these professions and occupations, to prevent fraudulent practices, to encourage participation in continuing education and to ensure that only high quality products and services are provided to the public by green industry professionals.

I just said they dropped the flower arranging part. The 4 hour practical exam judged by other florists as described in the documentary and OP. They still get a now cheaper and simpler license. Still dumb for grocery store arrangements not as dumb when you drop $$$$ on a wedding.

bullshite. Grocery stores sell poultry and red meat, vegetables, hygiene products, canned goods, alcohol, baked goods; etc., none of which is under legal jurisdiction of the horticulture commission.

Grocery stores have to employ a licensed florist in order to sell custom arrangements.

Louisiana lawyers been doing it forever.

Still holding onto the “civil law” thing to make it harder for lawyers from other states to be admitted tot he bar or at least foe them to think they have to hire la attorneys

100 percent true, as an attorney this scheme hurt me when leaving the state.

Even the interior designers no longer require degrees, apprenticeships and licenses for residential work.

Anewflame,

But they do require it for businesses?

Interior design?

I think interior design licenses are now only required for designers that do commercial properties. I don't think anything is licensed for "residential only" work. I was surprised when things changed but I'm more familiar with all the old rules than the new changes for this one.

The licensure requirements to work menial jobs in Louisiana is one of the reasons I shake my head when people say Louisiana is a red state. Very little about how Louisiana actually operates is conservative.

This. In Louisiana, you get all the negatives of a red state like a shitty economy, terrible infrastructure and crappy schools combined with all the negatives of a blue state like high taxes, insane big government overreach in most areas of life and a very healthy dose of corruption.

This place blows.

Louisiana does a great job at impeding commerce and it's only getting worse every year.
And the group that lobbied for the restrictions 50 years ago, are still paying the politician who got it thru's ancestors.
