A new 1,200-room hotel at the Morial Convention Center downtown is a risky proposal now that the coronavirus has disrupted New Orleans’ tourism industry and its major business meeting schedule.
That’s the conclusion of a new report from the Bureau of Governmental Research.
The watchdog group has been critical of the project in the past because of its heavy reliance on public subsidies. It estimates some $800 million in taxpayer support will be needed over 40 years in order to build the hotel adjacent to the riverfront facility.

Why are they allowed to build a hotel with tax payers dollars that competes with private hotels?

I'm sure it is. We have natural resources out the arse and we have to pay companies to come take it.

They gave a collapsed hotel with bodies still in it that they can’t get right and they want to build another?

Sounds like a hell of a deal that we can’t afford to be without. Build it and put the bond holders on the hook when it goes bankrupt. LOL

Should’ve kept the tolls on the CCC...

It really is.
Unless you are pulling for them but then they do stupid shite like this and it makes it hard to pull for them.
The state and its government need to implode and start over. It is corrupt and poorly run and it needs to end somehow.

Because the state of Louisiana couldn't put their greed aside long enough to get one Buccees store - ONE LOUSY STORE to open.
No businesses want to set up shop in Louisiana. The oil companies that get the oil from offshore La are headquartered in Houston Texas. Why? Because they are smart and want to continue to be in business.
Louisiana is a cesspool of a business serial killer just waiting for some unknowing victim to be stupid enough to set up shop. Luckily pretty much everyone alive knows that now.
So the intelligent government that turns shite into gold decided they can build and operate a business establishment. Especially as long as they have millions of idiots on the hook to pay for it.
WIN, WIN for the state and their corruption.

It is a stupid idea.
Taxpayers should not be made to do this.
