Seiko 5 series. There are tons of styles.
Do you mean the sport series?
There are some Seiko 5's that say water resistant to 30M but then say don't shower with it on.
It's not much of a watch if you can't get it shower wet...I would hate to go kayak fishing in the salt with it on.

Bro, Pagani Design on Amazon. Get you an homage to a classic.

What style are you looking for?
This is the most important question.
If he wants a basic watch that he can beat on every day for years a basic $50 G-Shock DW5600E is probably the best option. Anything beyond that we really need a better idea of what he wants since there are tons of options.

Hell. I would wear that.

If you want a clean contemporary design, Skagen.

Picked up a Citizen Eco Drive recently. Just outside of the price range you want, but it's a good looking watch. Find one style you like, its well worth it.

Fossil watches are good in that price range.

I had a Bulova in that price range in college/grad school.

If you can get to $200 you can pick up an orient Kamasu. Sharp looking watch, and the machining in the bezel really looks good. The biggest deal about this watch is the sapphire crystal. Almost impossible to scratch, I believe the only crystal harder is diamond. The sapphire crystal is a game changer for the watch looks over time.

$50 over said budget but my wife found this on black Friday last year for $200. I love the solar charging. I wait until around Christmas to buy anything. I have used the phone finder feature multiple times.

Same, I upgraded to a Tag Heuer Aquaracer as the Bulova had finally had enough

That is a bit like asking why all the people who do not run wear running shoes. In general, they are fit for purpose and they like the way they look.
I rarely see anyone diving with a watch on anymore. When dive computers become ubiquitous watches really became an anachronism. I wear mine just because but they are a backup to a backup. The reality is if my computer fails even if my dive buddy's is still functioning and my watch is functioning I am still starting up.
In the end people just like the way they look and many of the designs are iconic like the Submariner. A dive bezel also adds a lot of functionality you can use often even if you only desk dive. That being said I think a GMT offers more function for the average person which as an analog watch can have a very similar aesthetic.
