I hate to tell you it was after Katrina and the influx of culture it became a complete disaster.
A lot of us thought that most of the culture moved to Houston after Katrina?

Even then you had race riots in BR they killed police and "protestors"
I have no revisionist memory about Baton Rouge as I’m just stating how it was back in the 60’s and 70’s. Sure they had race riots but I grew up in Bogalusa who had more than their fair share of them. Back when I was a child and teenager, Baton Rouge was not bad in most parts of the city unlike today.

BR taking on and keeping the absolute worst humans y’all had to offer had no effects on BR is hilarious
It certainly had effects both ways.
It wasn't a turning point for BR nor did it accelerate what was already happening. Just made BR a bigger city with the same problems it always had. Gave people someone else to blame it on other than their decades of poor decision making

Does it make me feel good to say that Katrina contributed? Do I get some kind of glee in knowing that they affected many other communities for the worst? Answer: No, I do not. I wish they would not have been displaced for everyone's benefit, including themselves, as I'm sure most would say they wished Katrina never happened.
What? Everyone loves to say it.

Yeah, that's pathetic.
What Baton Rouge needs is old west justice. Deputize a bunch of rednecks and let them work.
Sounds great.
Now give us a realistic solution.

Nola folks who refuse to admit that BR taking on and keeping the absolute worst humans y’all had to offer had no effects on BR is hilarious
You have no way of knowing if today’s thug is an illegitimate product of Plank Rd or the Lower 9th Ward - the city of BR has been half black since the late 1980s
So blaming Katrina is nonsense. It’s been 20 years - and the percentages are not that different.
The crime in the 1990s and the rap/hip hop scene in Baton Rouge was New Orleans people, too?? Nah, I don’t think so.
And to the person that said New Orleans was a massive shite hole with crime everywhere even before Katrina is delusional as well and probably just stupid.
In the 23 years I lived in NOLA, we called the police once - and I didn’t live uptown or in Lakeview. In the 20 years I’ve been in BR, I can’t even count how many times I’ve called the police - grant it - usually on white meth heads, apparently that’s not the ‘bad’ from New Orleans.

Yes you and fightin tigers are right and everyone else is wrong
BR got worse after Katrina
Your personal anecdote means zilch. I’ve never called the cops in 40 years of living in BR; I’ve been robbed at gunpoint and had my truck broken into in Nola and have never lived there. That anecdote also means zilch.

—Percentage-wise, the impact was greater in BR because Houston’s population is ten times bigger

Landry can send in the National Guard at any time, right?
Yes, he can.
I think he’s trying to get power to appoint judges - rather than elect. Surely, that can’t go wrong.

Don't worry dude. The sky's not falling in Baton Rouge. White meth heads off Coursey and Sherwood don't usually murder each other three times a week.
