I take part in a lot of programs through the faith community, so I'm absolutely satisfied.

Have they even started any of the projects? Wasn't it a sales tax though?

They haven’t finished the Green Light Plan that Kip Holden passed in 2005, but Broome convinced the voters to pass an even bigger plan two years ago. Since then very little work had been done.

I think they are more worried about lining up fat contracts for minority businesses and friends of Broome than in getting major work completed.

I don't know if anything has actually broken ground yet, but all the MovEBR signs were put up about a week before election day, with SWB's name in letters big enough to be seen from space. I'm sure the timing was just a coincidence though.

That half-cent sales tax was passed two years ago this month. As road taxes go, it doesn't raise a lot of money in any single year for roads and drainage.....about $2.5 million a month in new money. That sounds like a lot but when it comes to roads, it's really not.

Here is a map that was published at the time of the tax election that shows the extent of the 30 year road construction projects. THIRTY YEARS!!!

Yes, there was, but it was not to build another bridge or widen the interstate through BR which are by far the 2 biggest problems as it relates to causing congestion around BR...

As for the surface streets, I mean there is visible progress all over. So, yeah? Government St is way better now, although this board wishes it were a 5 lane highway. The Brightside/Lee/Nicholson intersection is finished and awesome now. Dalrymple, Broussard, Perkins, Acadian, Essen, Government and parts of Highland have all been repaved and are awesome to drive on now. Pecue/I-10 interchange is underway but not done. The worst surface street by far is College drive, and that is on the project list but hasn't started yet. Plenty of other projects still in the queue. You can view it all on the website.

Post the website then. Government street is not way better and was also not part of this deal. Government street was funded mainly with federal dollars because it was a road diet.

I was walking government street on white light night. It took an Uber 20 minutes to cross over Acadian from half a mile away. This is with the slowest white light night I have ever ever seen. This is a massive step back for that area. I’m just glad I don’t live over there and deal with the BS on a daily basis.

Broome hasn’t done anything but make the city and parish worse.

Yeah what does he mean by Gov't Street is better? I only ever pass through BR these days but as usual I was in a clusterfrick on i10 west at the split and ended up getting off on College to weave my way back to Gov't to cut up to I-110 and it looked like they built some medians or walk ways or something. Is that what he means by better? Maybe it wasn't done but it appeared worse than the Gov't st. from a few years back.

Government Street was funded by a combination of city, state, credits and federal safety funds and ADA funds. Not entirely Federal-not even half but so what.

I’ve been up and down Government Street for 50 years and it moves just the same as it always has only it’s much nicer now. Step back my arse. Look at the people out all nights, not just white light night. Plenty of new businesses and no telling the percentage property values have gone up. Many old buildings and residences brought back to Commerce and life. There is no daily BS-just uninformed people who have no idea how things operate.

Broome had nothing to do with Government Street.
