It's clouding up in Lafayette right now. I'm headed for Alexandria.

Why would you want or need to do this? What were you trying to accomplish? It's an extremely high risk, with absolutely zero reward, unless you're a storm chaser.

Did you just want to see a tornado or something? Why? Your bucket list must suck. I assume "stare down the barrel of a loaded gun" is probably next on the list.

I've seen tornadoes, very close up. It is a harrowing experience. I don't recommend it.

In what possible way was that a "good" move?

Tornadoes are a crap shoot. Might as well pick a spot, load up the double barrel shotty, and hunker down. If the tornado is coming at you, just go out onto your second floor balcony and fire two blasts from that shotgun and I promise you that tornado is gonna change direction.

Sounds as if it worked out well this time.

It would have worked out better if he had just stayed home.

And this thread would have been just as boring.

Haha... Bad weather doesn't bother me at all. But weather that is producing tornadoes does.

In Oklahoma you head for the basement. In Louisiana you head to New Orleans Daquiri for the short lines.

No, but you can save yourself time by just spending a couple of hours on the lower level of a shopping mall for a while if they are predicting tornadoes.

Why didn't you just dig a 10 ft hole in yard to bunker down in instead of wasting all that gas money?

Not worth the risk if you're in a substantial structure. The path the cell dropping the tornado won't be exactly linear. Also, when cells are popping up all day, you could have driven right to a developing tornado. Why leave a good shelter for a car that won't stand up well to God punting it 500 yards?

As you said, you put yourself at risk of getting stuck in traffic and being in a car when the tornado hit.

In 2013, a TV meteorologist in Oklahoma City caused thousands of people to put their lives at risk by doing this exact thing. During an outbreak of large tornadoes, he told people in OKC to get out of the city and drive south. This created a huge flood of people following his "advice", and created a traffic jam causing most people to get stuck on the road in their cars. I don't believe anyone was killed doing this that particular day, but if one of the tornadoes had taken a path closer to that area, hundreds would have been killed.
