Anybody else get a warning text/email today about their energy usage in Texas? My energy company sent me one today and yesterday and I haven’t really changed anything. I would think those idiots would know there’s more consumption due to cold.

The whole Texas grid is about to brown out. Having their own grid has consequences.

Reddit says the reason we now have energy warnings, rolling blackouts is because of trump , greedy corporations, and more people having electronics than they used to.

ERCOT had 14MW of power in reserve on Friday and peaked at 72mw. I think we're good.

I'm also involved with the EOP mandate by the RRC. shite has gotten much tighter since 2020.

How can ya'll stand a house being heated to 68 degrees. I don't know why 68 is hot as hell in a heated house but cold as a witches tit when you are cooling a house but heating to 68 is just miserable to me.

They do not have their own grid. Grids are just like roads they all connect. They can purchase extra power from others thru transmission lines. From state to state.

Luckily some of them were just mothballed and rushed back into service or run on natural gas.

I passed the old coal plant in Gulfport last night, and to my surprise it was on and you could see that the plant was in use.

The Gulfport plant was converted to natural gas in 2015.

I noticed reduced use of the plant after Southern’s new clean coal plant in Kemper County became operational after years of delays and cost overruns.

Eventually, the new clean coal plant in Kemper was converted to natural gas because syngas was too power intensive to create from lignite coal mine from the site.

In the summer of 2021, Plans were announced that Mississippi Power wanted to shutdown a unit of about 1/4 of the power that could be generated at the plant in Gulfport as part of a green initiative in 2024. I guess they may be rethinking that idea.

There must be something in the water in the executive board rooms at power generating companies: Entergy and Southern/Mississippi Power. They certainly know how screw over the ratepayers.

Not hot to me in the middle of the night. During the day, I don’t use heat and wear a sweatshirt if I feel chilly.

A little of both. They are connected into other states, but they are the only state to operate an independent grid.

We haven’t received any notices about shortages or requesting reduced usage. Temps will start to rise tomorrow so we are on the end of this. Texas seems to be one of the few states without rolling blackouts this time.

It’s my sorry energy company. They did this crap during the summer also, recommding I put my ac on 85 when I leave the house and no lower than 80 when I’m home. I would cancel them, but I’m putting my house up for sale next week anyway and won’t use them wherever it is I may move to.
